I've never played TT but i want to approach MWO when i start playing MWO with the mindset of "I'm a character in the BT universe" instead of "I'm just a player in this video game".
For the moment i have decided to RP as a freelance Mercenary because i don't have deep knowledge in the history and culture of all the IS factions, the Clans or the other region of space where the Pirates come from. What do u call that region?
Anyway, i noticed that on battletech.com there are free PDF books that give some cool info on the BT universe in general. But does anybody know if there is a free downloadable PDF book or just a link that can give me historical and cultural info on all the Is factions?
I figured that asking those who have experience in playing TT would know about this, which is why i posted this question here.
Thx,
DR.DEATH

What I would do is try to read some of the books, they get pretty deep into it all. the Sarna wiki has a bunch of stuff too, not quite as in depth as the books go but you can get a feel for them all.

Sarna.net has all of the original source books. It'll give you a solid background on the various factions.

There was a site called Classic Battletech (which I cannot find now) that had extensive information on the history of the factions and universe up until the Jihad. Sarna seems to have most of the same stuff but not as an extensive amount of info on the general timeline and IS history. Still should be more than enough for what you have in mind, pretty good coverage of the factions and their attitudes to decide which you would like to go with.

There's the site, but as much as I like Sarna it is a wiki and sometimes gets things wrong. The link I provided is the official Battletech game site, they have an overall web portal connecting everything Battletech together as well. This site is still going through some growing pains so there might be things not available at the moment.

Well, there are various sources. Sarna is one of the best, but you need to know where to look.
Check this out. All original house books there. This should cover rulers, life in a said state, it's mechs, etc.

Welcome to the community.
The original house books are great, but you should also read the 4th Succession war books which is the Warrior Trilogy by Michael Stackpole. This will give you a really clear feel for the setting and the Davions, Kuritan, Liaoese and to a lesser extent the Lyrans.
You should be able to pick it up of Amazon for under $10. I think I paid $8 for the trilogy on Kindle.
