MWO has audio options that is selectable for 2 Channel Stereo all the way to 7.1 Surround.

I use the 7.1 Surround and can hear an amazing [color=#333333]immersive[/color] audio [color=#333333]environment.[/color]

You hear your foot steps left and right. And then another mech crosses your path right in front of you and you hear it's foot steps from the right and then to the left of you, at the same time an Atals unleases missles from my back right side and they are heading to my left front side over a hill - I hear the missles almost like a Doppler effect. The closer the enemy is when you fire an AC2 the louder the impact sounds. Geeze. MWO---this is great.

I'll probably listen to most the same stuff I listen to playing other games. Namely, a lot of new-ish electro, dubstep, and house music, along with a lot of "older" electronic stuff. The Prodigy, Feed Me, Daft Punk, Emalkay, deadmau5, so on and so forth.

If I'm gonna be shooting lasers at people, I feel it's appropriate that my music sounds like it's firing lasers at me. If I'm in an AC/Missile-heavy mech, I might listen to a lot more rock/punk than electronic.

Exactly. I've heard an enemy mech's footsteps before they showed up on sensors. Saved me a few times.
