I agree with Listless Nomad, I need alot more info before I join or start my own Merc unit. I am new to the site, but not the BT Universe. I don't even know how the Dev's are gonna dole out mech's when all this starts?! Will all new players get Lights, and only the lucky Beta's get the heavy\ Assault mechs? Or will it be an Atlas world, with Assault mechs handed out like candy at Halloween? I need more info before deciding to join or make my own unit!

I just vomited in my mouth, with the aftertaste of WoW candy.....

They shouldn't allow you to take possession of established legendary units in the games lore. I'ts time to put your thinking caps on and get creative and make your own name.

Speaking only for myself, when we created Black Widow Company, we did not know what BattleTech was and had never heard of the unit, either. Our name came from something completely different. And having been gaming with BWC for nigh on ten years, I don't intend to get into MWO with some other name. I understand the puritanical fanboi reaction to someone running around with the hallowed name of, say, Wolf's Dragoons or First Genyosha, but I don't really care. If the name is available I'm taking it. If it's not available because it's dev-locked, I'll work around the filter to get the tag/name that closest represents the only gaming company I have played with in a solid decade. Sorry if that bottom line offends or otherwise upsets people, but that's the way it is.

The end.

Don't get me wrong I'm glad to see units already being formed but the devs have said they'll be locking out some of the more famous units.

I see groups forming for the Dragoons, Gray Death, etc, some of you guys are even setting up websites.

What happens if they don't let you use the names of those units? I suppose we could be Wolf's Dragoonz or Da Grey Death Leejun but that's kinda lame.

As the game nears Beta, I envision third-party clearing houses (let's call them Merc Brokers for now) vetting units that are best suited to wear the colors of historic units and how they will be designated. Locked out units will be ... well, locked out.

For example, in the Clearing House that will be mwomercbrokers.com , every known active Merc unit will be classified as to historical standing, unit standing, and game standing, so that new players as well as veterans will have a standard to measure them against each other.

There may well be multiple "Grey Death Legionz" who aspire to an accurate moniker, but my vision is that the clearing houses will show who is THE Grey Death in MWO (whatever their call sign for now) who is to be feared, hired, or applied to, as opposed to any "wanna-be" Grey Deaths that might not be so ... worthy.

I hope that sheds some light on the issue.

As always, that is JMHO, and it is not endorsed by or associated with ComStar.

Let's not forgot some of these groups have been around for over two decades. It's not just about names.

No Worries here. Clan Black Sheep isnt canon but its been around since the advent of online Mech games. Back Story? In a nutshell we're the Clans Black Ops without Grand Councils knowledge. Its Warriors are those that just dont fit the Clan Mold but are effective none-the-less. And as Ive mentioned in other posts just because Wolfs Dragoons were the Vanguard of the Invasion whats to say other Clans didnt send out their own Forward Recon elements, or perhaps remnants of Clan that were Annihilated or made up of Warriors who refused to be absorbed? WD went into Inner Sphere space in 3000, how many Clans didnt exist by that time? Quite a few if I recall correctly.

I'm sorry to be harsh and to be "that guy" but this is the most elitist piece of crap idea I've ever seen. I don't like the idea of other players trying to "vet" anything that isn't theirs. I mean, if you're not part of a specific guild, clan, outfit, society, company, etc then what right do YOU, as a player of a game, have to tell some other guys that they just can't have the name because they aren't authentic enough in YOUR opinion? Inside your own merc company you can dictate to your own members as much as you or your leadership sees fit. But telling another guild that they just can't have the name when you don't own ****?

No.

Sorry to be harsh, but this isn't your tyranny.
