You think we are comparing the actual TRO Artwork to this new one? Its the design we are talking about. The TRO drawing, as I stated in a previous post, is dirty and untidy. Its the DESIGN that we like. The general Aesthetic. The New PGI Drawing is is 100 times better then the original TRO Drawing, but those of us who like the old Centurion better like the actual Aesthetic Design of it better.

(Thanks CamoSpecs.com)

Again, I think this re-design is an awesome mech, just not a Centurion. Take off the fin on the head and you could probably call it a Redesigned Panther.

AdamBaines really summed up how I feel about this too. The argument isn't about the quality of the art. The issue is that the new design does not immediately identify itself as the 'mech it's supposed to be. The previous redesigns that have been shown I could immediately identify; they maintained the visual cues of their predecessors, and more importantly, they maintained the aesthetic of a BattleMech. This new Centurion just does not fit the ethos of the BattleTech universe.

Now clearly, not everyone will agree, especially because probably not everyone here is a Classic BattleTech fan. However, if this game is using the BattleTech franchise, it should at least try to remain consistent. Bottom line:

Atlas, Dragon, Jenner, Catapult, Hunchback = great redesigns that remain true to the source
Centurion = Went too far in a new direction, please tweak the design.

And it wouldn't take much; a lot of the design tidbits are there. It's just that the other tidbits shout much louder.

(much like us, I suppose)

Look, Im not trying to be a (EDIT)Meanie(EDIT) and I'm very very sorry everyone if its coming off that way. Im not asking anyone to change anything because this is PGI's game and I know that if you do make a change other people will complain. You can't make everyone happy, and it seems the majority like it (as I said I also like the beautiful artwork), Im just saying how I feel and think, and thats the purpose of having forums in the first place, right? Again, PGI is rocking it and I appreciate all the hard work you do as I work is software development as well and can relate to people telling you their opinions about your hard work.

EDIT: Man, the things that get **** out......

Well, when I think of BTech community, Pirnha is doing quiet nicely. Remake 6 very iconic mech and have just minor complains on the last one and already fixed problem with Dragon is more than they could have hoped for. ;)

Trust me, you don't want to drive the Bushwacker from this era. ;)

I like it.

Some many not like them but you can have the most awesome perfect design of a mech and you will have your naysayers so carry on the good work.

I feel like I'm stuck in the awkward middle here. I love the new centurion, and I also love the retro boxy design too. My only suggestion for FD's redesign is to raise the head a little - imo the centurion is the epitome of the classy/regal soldier mech in a universe full of chicken-legged death walkers.

I just dont like the oversized fin on the head, and the stupid shield on the arm. I dont really care for the toes either, but eh, who's going to see them. If they want to burn the extra polygons programing them, not my problem. But the shield on the arm makes it appear that it has more armor on the left arm than on the right. And thus will be a FUNCTIONAL shield, which is a big NO NO in Battletech. This isnt Robot Jocks!

Oh man! I've always thought the Centurion looked clunky and outdated, practically Zeerust, but this redesign looks AWESOME. Is it based on an existing variant, or was this created fresh for this game?

Nice, it's not my Dervish, but I'll take all the FedSuns metal you guys will offer. And the looks...it's intimidating and yet manages to be beautiful. Fantastic work gentlemen, can't wait to see the rest.

I am a fan of the other re-designs but this one is a little off for me. Personally the Cent was my fave in MW2: Mercs, I would buy it first and same for Mechcommander.

This re-imagining is a little ya know, off for me. I would have not recognized it unless someone told me it's a Cent. Maybe it's the post but a few things throw me off.

1) The shield. Nada the Cent never had one.
2) The Claw arm.... That reminds me of Manei Dominei Mechs.

In fact I thought I was wondering how come a Manei Dominei Mech actually appeared in 3050 and I first saw it.
Look at dem hands. In fact if that Cent had bird foot system, it would look close to a Celestial type Omni o.0

3) The another point would be the head, but I could live with that.

While i really enjoyed the other re-designs, this one does not really float my boat. Still it is a fine work and fine looking mech.

This is only my opinion, but the original Centurion design for me is horrible. There is no way you can retain most of it and still say that it is a practical design. I'll agree to disagree with adamant fans of the original Centurion design but I'll still say my piece.

1) The original Centurion is nothing like an armored tank, unless you actually grab a tank, stand it up and put a pair of legs on it. The plating used on the new Centurion protects the proper areas on the mech and it has a more compact profile which is proper for a war machine. It also utilizes more geometry to help lessen the impact of enemy weapons. The old Centurion is as flat as a board and would take the full brunt of any frontal hits instead of allowing geometry to lessen the force.

2) The redesign on the cannon arm is more practical as it is thin at the end and slopes properly with the armor to deflect shells which hit it when it's pointed at the enemy and firing. The old Centurion cannons would take hits at a 90 degree angle and allow maximum damage taken making it rather dangerous to use in a head-to-head fight.

3) The original Centurion knee design looks like an accordion. It's not cool to have a huge war machine with rubber knees. The new design has actual armor protecting the knee joint (and other joints) in a practical way.

4) The old Centurion has big fat fingers that can't grab anything for the life of it. The new one has more practical mechanical claws for holding onto stuff.

5) The original design had flat feet from the looks of it. That wouldn't even let it go up a slope much less stay stable on any rough terrain.

6) The new Centurion looks like it can actually twist its torso. The old Centurion's torso looked like a solid rectangular block of steel. The new Centurion's waist design makes it look like it can actually bend over to lower its profile even more when working with limited cover.

7) I hope they keep the shield. There are no weapons in the left arm so making it a wider target will be a benefit to soak up extra shots with proper torso twisting between weapon CDs.

And yes, I've played the TT with friends when FASA was still up and running, read the novels, and I've played the MW games that have come out. I never liked the original Centurion design since over a decade ago and I am glad that they did not let it carry over the way it was. The new design is a far cry from Gundam or any anime design that I know of and I believe that it retains the Battletech feel.

I'm sure that there will be a design or two that I may dislike or disagree with in the future, but for now I will put my vote behind the new Centurion.
