I have played many games in beta. This is the only one that doesnt give you access unless you pay.
There are way to many free to play games out there that are not so money hungry. I understand you need to make money to support the game. If you allow more people access they will tend to like it and spend more money on the game in the game shops but I guess you never tought of that. I will not be supporting this game due to greed I cant stand greedy game makers or greedy people for that matter. Good luck with your game founders as you cant take it with you.

heres the diffrence lad. if i'm not mistaken, this is a newer company. you know... doesn't have a bunch of other games to pay the bills for them? may want to take a moment and rethink that. besides, if it were all about money they'd bethesda it. advertisement before quality and all that. similarly though, working at a grocery store is all about money, as is selling and manufacturing vehicles, or doing road mantinence. it pays the bills. the difference here is the devs seem to care about their work. haven't seen anything much for an advertisement fund. either means they're too broke to do much, or they're pouring it where it belongs- the quality. take those things into consideration, you may see it differently.

Ok, so "Greedy game makers" can magically create quality server systems, feed their families, and hire new talent to help create the game out of thin air? Not everything in life is free.... least of all making and running an online game. Lots of people got into CLOSED BETA before they bought founders. If you do not want to help support the game, then why should you be in closed beta? Clearly you would just be here to play the game, and not to BETA TEST. The only person who is "greedy" here is you, because you are refusing to support a game you want to play for free. Why does everyone think they are entitled to everything in FTP games these days?

xD YEP! seen 'em, and man... i don't see this plastered all over the internet like skyrim(job) or cod, or any of that advertise>quality stuff. honestly, the devs seem to REALLY care about their game. and i can understand needing to pay to play right now (even though its testing to be more precise), because they're not like a big company that already has other games they rake in money from. i expect good things, since they're putting their funding to development rather than advertisement.

though in all fairness, i don't think they NEED to advertise. everyone interested knows what to look for. everybody not will be too distracted by (insert mainstream fps here)

I didn't pay and got into beta. They're offering extra people the chance to get into beta if they want to pay for it.

Battletech and Mechwarrior have a very loyal following. If a company decides to release a quality Mechwarrior game and offer a way for me to donate to help that project, I'll jump at it, as will many others. Oh, and hey, I also got to play for my donation, win-win.

you have a real good point there, and i see it the same way...kickstarter-projects are very popular nowadays, and in most cases you get nothing but the promise, that maybe they will make a game with your money, that might be good, or not, you donate on your good believe...and MANY ppl do it...some projects made 2 million $ in just a few days, on nothing but believe... in MWO i donate on my good believe AND get to play it already, take part in the development process in a way... there are many informations around, on which i was able to make this decission, i know exactly what my money gives me and what not.

and btw.... i played a lot of closed betas without spending any money on them also... most of them i didn´t enjoy, some i did... but calling PGI greedy is the last thing that would come to my mind. they kind of asked us for donation and gave us some goodies for that... i think thats fair...btw, the 120$ package was a community wish... just saying before someone calls them out on that ;)

You're an *****. Closed beta is exactly that. Open beta will be open, when it's open. **** and go troll somewhere else. Go back to your WoW.

Translation: was deadweight on previous 'vanity beta' projects and thinks he knows something about 'the industry' but actually a minimum pay retail worker (which is fine, by the way) or student (which is also fine) with delusions of grandeur (which is where it becomes not fine).

None of us paid to get into the beta, it was a freebie to those of us who did pay and everyone else got in for free on the understanding that they agree to the NDA and actually test the game (which we, founders, also had to agree to, by the way). I gather some people were definitely 'pushed over the edge' on the purchasing decisions by the guaranteed access but it was actually an afterthought addition on the part of PGI as they felt it was time to expand the beta test pool again and who better to bring in than people dropping between 30 and 120 dollars as a show of support?

Yet another self-entitled *** who thinks he should take part in the closed beta just because he took part in others.
I really doubt you are gonna be an asset by joining a closed beta since closed betas are supposed to let players inform the producers what's going on with the game. You, on the other hand, didn't even bother to research on those why some were given beta keys; it is either through the Founder's Programme, or were lucky enough to get it.

TL;DR

ach, don't flame the guy. i know this is the internet, but there is a small chance he may have had a genuine concern. personally i don't agree with him, but that doens't mean the response has to be harsh words. besides, if hes just trying to see how riled up he can get us, wouldn't a few reasoned points, and patient words represent us better than insulting words and pictures? in one case, we'd open the guy's mind to our point of view, in the other, refuse to amuse him by doing exactly what he'd intended.

Well, im glad we wont be seeing him in beta. Another of these "I been in other betas, therefore I have the right to demand a beta key here"

Well, If he had taken the time to actually read up about the game and the founders program, then he would not get this response. But he didnt, and fully deserves the responses we gave.

The founders packs are more to help the developer with flexibility to make the game they want to make, for us. I shelled out $100 to another game that is still in alpha stages because I believe they can do good work and I want to show my support.

To say that you are paying for a beta key is absurd.
