Also, setting forrests on fire with flamers is a must have.

If 2 smoking destroyed mech lags and drops my framerate a lot with that Cryengine 3 volumetric particle effects, I dont wanna mind to see a Forest on fire...

Beta (named after the second letter of the Greek alphabet) is the software development phase following alpha. It generally begins when the software is feature complete.

http://en.wikipedia....life_cycle#Beta

Quote

A beta version is a feature complete, working piece of software. Polish and details may be missing. There will be bugs (as in any piece of software), but very few that break the entire software. Beta versions are often the first public versions, public as in outside the development team. A beta test is meant to test real-life use of the software.

What is a beta version?
A beta is a feature-complete version of the software that has been tested, though known to still contain bugs. For that reason, it is recommended only for advanced users. It should not be substituted for a final release.

Quote

Beta
The software is complete enough for external testing -- that is, by groups outside the organization or community that developed the software. Beta software is usually feature complete, but may have known limitations or bugs. Betas are either closed (private) and limited to a specific set of users, or they can be open to the general public.

By the same definiton, we really are here:

Quote

Pre-Alpha

The software is still under active development and not feature complete or ready for consumption by anyone other than software developers. There may be milestones during the pre-alpha which deliver specific sets of functionality, and nightly builds for other developers or users who are comfortable living on the absolute bleeding edge.

I know its silly, but this is a huge pet peeve of mine. As a software developer myself (.NET & C#), I would be fired if my boss asked me to release a beta of our software, and it only contained 25% of planned features (then had the audacity to tell him relax, its a "beta" and its coming)...

Relax its in early closed beta. It will come. There are bigger things missing that need to be implemented. They are pretty obvious and I could mention them, but then i'd be breaking the NDA.

Yeah, well, they don't have a boss, and their lead developer evidently agrees on that point. They will call it what they like, they will work with it the way they like, and there's ****** all you can do about it. We didn't call it a Closed Beta, and neither did we say it was not feature complete first.

Personally, sod the destruction physics. It's a complicated, demanding and difficult feature with only point to it being an additional complexity level to game mechanics that are otherwise basic. A BattleMech is complex enough machine as it is, and the collision model has not only been promised but even displayed on the NVIDIA event, there's not much to wish past that. Plus, buildings make for great vantage points and landmarks, and bringing those down would only ruin the jetpack mechanic.

Trees falling down? Sure. Destroying buildings? I'll pass. There's better targets to go for anyway.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but literally the first video released for this game, a couple years ago, before it was turned into an online game, featured destructible buildings as an important feature, while commentary attached to the video pointed that out specifically because it was important.

Not to mention that it wouldn't ruin jump jets, just make 'Mechs actually think about where they're about to land like they actually should.

Sorry, but that video wasn't Mechwarror Online.

It was, however, a video of the same game from the same developers. The only things that have changed are that 1) We can no longer get to use an unseen Warhammer and 2) the name was different.

I would definitely like to see destructible trees at least and CryEngine shouldn't have too many problems doing that.
