Instance Battle vs Planet Attack vs Progressive World

Ok, I've been a fan of MWO and B-Tech for many many years (As of course most or all of the readers of this post are). And one of the big items that brings me back time after time is of course the Mecha Combat, but also the progressive world of the Inner Sphere and the Battles for Worlds.

I've been playing Megamek for Years keeping my old love alive while praying for something like this to come about and have been watching much happen here including the videos and media.

WIth said, one thing I'm starting to notice as a trend (which I'm hoping will be either added to or just be a small part of the system) is that the combat is Instance based with random teams. Other than leveling up your pilot and buying some parts, there seems to be little of the Battletech or Mechwarrior universe that was not covered in the old Virtual Geographic League years ago (For those of you who are unfamiliar with it, google VGL and Battletech).

Does anyone know where this game and system will be going? As I can not find much on this in the forums at this time.

many discussions on that topic, and persistant universe/ factional warfare/ territory control are told to come... when/ how/ in which shape or form is not known yet... PGI is at full work to get the core game straight right now... i believe there are great plans for MWO, it will (hopefully) not stay kind of another lobby-shooter with mechs...most of us all not least the devs, would agree that MechWarrior deserves much more than that :)

but one illusion some might have i have to kill now.... it will never be an open world or what ever MMORPG... at least as far as we know, but who knows for sure?

Well, with the game currently in beta and the NDA in effect... Your best bet is to read the dev blogs and the other subforums in the developers corner.

If you check through the dev blogs and some of the public posts (especially the pinned ones) you will find a lot of detail on exactly the questions you asked.

Core point: they want community warfare too but they want the baseline combat system to be functional first
