My first post here :P and wanted to say hello. I've played, almost exclusively off-line and/or LAN, just about every Mech game made and I'm finally throwing in to the Mech-on-line world. I gravitate a lot more to the simulation side, so color me impressed from what I've read so far. I have a few questions, and I know it's still beta, so things can/will change.

Are Joysticks Supported?
Can I Haz a Beta Key?
/sarcasm off

I read ALL of Dev Blog 5, and have been sandbagging the forums for a few days now doing my due dillegence. All joking aside, a lot of my questions are control-scheme based. Again, I understand some things may not be answerable due to NDA/Beta and simply not fully developed yet.

1: Pilot Look Mode? Is this perma-toggleable? As in HOMAS/TrackIR setup for simultaneous Torso and Arm targeting and control while moving in independant directions? This should (if working as I hope) disable the "catch-up" feature of the dual reticules.

2: Side-Stepping/Straffe? Unless I missed it, side-stepping behind cover is not supported at this time. The way I read all the control layouts is forward movement + turn is the only *pilot* control available (torso not-withstanding).

3: Multi-Monitor/Single-Arm Targetting? This kind of goes back to Pilot Look, but the question here is max torso twist + max arm sway + peripheral monitors = one arm shooting at greater off-movement angles. I'm not even sure at this point if multi-monitor is supported in such a way to be beneficial or not (not just stretched screen, but increased FoV).

4: As I'm almost assured to buy at least the minimum level founder's pack, are these questions answered in the beta forums? I like to do tons of research before "swiping the card" as my household easily has 4-5 accounts that could be playing at once and there IS an un-named competitor ATM for a mech-based MMO (but definately more arcadish). Every purchase x5 adds up quick!

Thanks!

If you could not find what you are looking for in the dev posts then there is nothing anyone can say. The people in beta cannot and will not because its bad form and against rules.

Well, a button/option to move torso and arms as a independently was never mentioned, but people in the beta are the only ones to know for sure and they can't answer...

Sidestepping on a mech is out of question. It doesn't make sense in-game, nor in real life.

Once again a question only answerable by people already playing beta. However, it would make sense not to allow multi-monitor using players to move their arms reticule beyond the middles screen.

No idea, once you're in the beta you'll know for sure, but that is against your way of handling things.
I know it sucks, but either you wait for open beta, but loose the option to buy the Funders, or you'll jump in blidly, but that's also not 100% sure.

Actually, a button for pilot-look mode was mentioned, it just was not detailed if sustained combat was feasible while this mode is active, or if it's just a temporary "view/snipe" mode.

I dunno, I have two legs, and I can side-step just fine :P at a much slower rate than running of course. Also being a mechanical enginerd, designing a two-legged "walking" machine with zero form of lateral movement other than forward locomotion in real-life would be silly indeed but point taken, and answered nicely...thanks!

It was kinda a two-part question, the important part which I didn't stress enough, was if multi-monitor set-ups actually increased your FoV...arm-swinging past "both-arm range" I know will only come from testing/development if at all

Bah, not against my way of handling things at all! I've only been researching for 36 hours so far and just like to line up my targets before pulling the trigger ;)

Thanks Again!

I mentioned several times I was aware of this limitation. As I am new here, some of my questions may already have answers that my search-fu has failed on. These forums are obviously at an infant stage, as many threads only have 4-5 replies and sifting through many many small length threads that hit on the search parameters almost garuntee me missing some things until I become fully acquainted with the forums here...hence my questions, AND disclaimers

I understand friend and glad you didnt think i was being an ***.

As for sidestepping, i cannot find rules for it in tabletop that dont involve 4 legged mechs. Heavy gear was the only mech style game i remember to have any sidestepping.

Not a problem ;) , I just didn't want to come off as "one of those" that begged for information/keys/etc without investing anything in the game. I fully intend to spend the coin, I just have to appease the powers-that-be with some research before I invest in yet another MMO (DDO takes most of my coin ATM).

I have zero experience with tabletop, but tons of experience with the PC games themselves, so I have no idea on lore. I read in the quad thread, that there advantage was movement in any direction "at full speed" which implied to me that lateral movement in PnP was possible at a reduced rate.

Most of my questions involve going all-out and building my Sim-seat specifically for this game. I have all the hardware, but what gear to dedicate to it is my quandry ATM.

Thanks!

Edit: IIRC armored core had straffing also..gotta find it and fire it up now. I loved the customization in that game, but hated actually playing it due to the unrealistic physics of 100 ton mechs shooting all over the place at speeds that would rip it apart in reality.
