With this new take on team deathmatch (1 mech = 1 life) does anyone think that acts of heroism (eg. sacrificing yourself to save your wounded lance-mate) will become commonplace in MWO?

Or is the mentality since I only get one life i'm gonna hold on to it at all costs?

depends. sometimes people are so dumb you enjoy seeing them get thumped even if it costs the game, but it usually won't, since they're worthless anyway.

The group of friends I game with, depending on the game, will have a "no one gets left behind" mentality. With this game in particular, whenever the "pointman" in our group starts taking too much damage or overextends, we'll get him to back up while we move ourselves in front of him, without putting ourselves out of position. The only time we ever TRULY ditch someone or consider them a lost cause, is when the entire enemy team is bearing down on him and we can't make a decent move against them to truly change the odds. For example being outnumbered heavily.

Well, I would hope it will see a reduction in suicidal idiocy. I can't see how constant respawning would motivate you to attempt to save a lance mate. He'd be back again in a couple of seconds anyway. No respawns has been working fine in WoT and my platoon buddies and I come to each others rescue there all the time.

Me and a buddy of mine tend to work in a 2 man team and we do fairly well. We only use that tactic when our team is not on the same page so we keep each other alive and work as a team. I find tactics over personal glory tends to be fun for everyone and you can make some great friends that way.

we have given our lives to save each other and sometimes it pays off big. Others we both die and laugh about it so you still win lol

Come on guys, don't you remember the recent 'when the stakes are high, everyoneone is expendable'?
Sacrifices will be done only in teamplay. That already assumes some thinking. Therefore, covering something like a wounded, but still alive long ranged damage-dealer by a scout that has done its job already or a mech with no ammo (or weapons) left would be beneficial. Otherwise, it doesn't even make sense.

I've done a little of this. I was in a Catapult and the game went long so my missles ran out. By this point in the match it was just a beat up Atlas and I left. Since I had full armor and no weapons and ran up next to him and played mobile shield and I also would try to ram the mechs that got too close.

Better than being useless I suppose.

So in this game, it's sorta like CS style, one game = 1 life? And if you go down, do you have to 'pay' to fix up your ride or is it perma gone?

First of all...sacrifice of a wounded lance mate?...thats doesnt seem like a smart move unless you are wrecked (all weapons gone, boiling with no heat sinks, smoke everywhere, sparks flying) and your lancemate just lost an arm or something...
secondly..it will have to be done at some point in time, a good commander will often sacrifice someone for a greater tactical advantage

I'm nearly certain you would simply pay a repair cost and have your 'Mech back. I can't see the other option ending in anything short of massive ragequits, and Piranha is full of people smart enough to know that.
