A little FRIENDLY FIRE questionnaire... I personally dont like it. And suggesting to YOU dont get used to it. Because whenever you will have anything real in your hands IRL, you gonna mow down also in front all the friendlies..

And thats an *OH NO* situation.

@2
That should be done by colors. CUSTOMIZABLE.

You know.. the little square around your target..?

I personally like the BLUE for a friendly. And RED for enemies. Maybe GREEN for VIP friendly.
But that all should be customizable. Maybe you like Red. Or purple. :)

Would I like friendly fire? No, I wouldn't want to be firing on a friendly, and I certainly wouldn't want to be on the receiving end.

It does need to be in the game though. That way people just can't indiscriminately fire at whatever their crosshairs land on.

Actually the thought of indirect fire mechanics working in this game excites me. It would add a whole extra layer of realism and require much better communication. Information warfare tools will become requirements to effectively use these types of strategies but the payoffs would have to become large. The effective use of scout mechs, targeting technologies, and fire support will hopefully be well polished in the game.

Freindly fire is currently in the test build cause when I listend to the pod cast that was talking about it (sry I dont have the link but i know its SOMEWHERE aroudn these forams >_>) Where one of the Hunchbacks TKed the otherone with his AC10. Yes AC10, not 20 which is a good sign that there will be varients in this :)

P.S. I WANT MY KATAPULT (the Catapult that has PPCs instead of Missles.)

I want friendly fire. It will benefit fast moving mechs if they can position themselves to make their enemies block their own allies.

A very good point. Line of Fire and Line of Sight should be prominent tactical concerns in the game.

With LOS/D being vital to this game, it's important that target recognition is maintained.

It's called situational awareness. I can see accidental friendly fire being common in close quarter furballs - especially if you have to hold a laser on target to maximise damage. Lesson no 1 - never run in front of a Hunchback - you could waste 10% of his limited ammo :)

And advising your Team mate of your impending move wouldn't hurt either. Bob drives the Hunchy.

"Bob, will make a frontal pass in 3 seconds, hold fire please!"

"Thanks Bob. Carry on the carnage!"

:)
