So we have been given 6 mechs so far. Assuming (and we all know what that makes of us) 12 on launch we have half the starting stable. If we take it as 3 mechs from each wieght class we can now narrow down our wild speculation on the remaining mechs to somewhat considered speculation.
I taught it might be interesting and a bit of a laugh if we tried predicting the final line up using what we know so far and see who gets the most matches with the final list. Once again assuming 12 mechs divided equally between the weight classes and taking into account the tonnages of the known mechs here are my guesses.
We need 2 lights, 1 medium, 1 heavy and 2 asaults.
Commando 25T (personally hate it but can't stand bug mechs either and need a lighter mech)
Raven 35T (OK this one is what I want to see but have a feeling it'll be the Wolfhound)
Whitworth 40T (just for lighter Med)
Warhammer 75T (well it is in the trailer)
Battlemaster 85T (keeping a weight gap to maintain Atlas impact)
Well they are my guesses although just writting them I wanted to make changes already, Locust, Spider, Lynx, Wolverine, Stalker and Cyclops were all on my shortlist.

I wonder if they would start with a mech from each weight class that is traditionally associated with the major houses. So at least 4 per weight class and a total of 16 at start.
Wouldn't "a 'Mech from each weight class that is traditionally associated with the major Houses" equate to 20 'Mechs?
5 Houses (Davion, Kurita, Liao, Marik, Steiner) * 4 weight classes (light, medium, heavy, assault) * 1 BattleMech per weight class per House = 20 BattleMechs
It could even be 24, if one considers player factions rather than Houses and includes the FRR...?
6 player factions (Combine, Confederation, FWL, FRR, Lyrans, FedSuns) * 4 weight classes (light, medium, heavy, assault) * 1 BattleMech per weight class per House = 24 BattleMechs
And if the Devs reserve ComStar and the Com Guards for themselves and/or GMs/Mods, they might have some unique Star League or Com Guard 'Mechs (that could be salvaged if one manages to fell said Dev/Mod)...?
Personally, I (and a few others
) just want a Marauder
to be available as a player-faction/House 'Mech...
