yeah easly

EVE for one if your not playing it your losing it + you pay for it and you can only get things done fast with other players.

BUT this for what iv played and seen you can jump right in, no need for Needy creepy clans to tell you what to do team speak will work but u dont HAVE TO HAVE IT to play.

and the weapons seem a very well balanced and probably very heavy in skill based to play well tbh

As a former BT nut who used to spend more time than is healthy on things like interstellar campaigns using house rules, and having extricated myself from the time-suck that is EVE Online, I was wondering if someone with a family and a regular job can just enjoy this game in short bursts without having to commit to a clan, a practice schedule, meetings, etc.... Sometimes when reading these forums I get the sense that there isn't much room for the 'average' adult gamer here, and I'd love to be wrong! For reference, I enjoy MWLL tremendously and have great fun playing 'in and out' for an hour or two at a time, and don't mind working as a team (Teamspeak, etc) but there's no way this is going to be the 'life' anymore. Thoughts?

FANTASTIC looking game, BTW.

I dont think anyone can tell yet, most of the gameplay isnt implemented as of yet.
Untill it is, not enough info....

Anyone who claims to be elite or wise is most assuredly neither +1 :D

well i dont think it will be all about Clans as it will put a lot of people off the game (including me)

dont think there will be massive changes as its a closed beta or it will be there for a LONG LONG time or go back even ferther

Wow... thanks for all the replies. It's good to know there are some relatively 'old farts' on here (I fondly remember playing MW2 when I was in college - first game I ever upgraded my computer to play!) So I think I will be getting in on the beta; even though it's FTP (which as an old-school gamer is a concept I abhor in theory, but that's another post entirely and it seems MWO may steer clear of my main burns in this regard)

One follow-up question: Can you play this game 'lone wolf' part-time and still be part of a lance/unit when desired? I have a sinking feeling that I'll want to play this a lot once I get the hang of it, and I especially like the tactical and strategic part of working as a unit to achieve objectives as opposed to a free-for-all. That being said, I'd still want to practice in 'open' matches since there is no offline component (that I've seen; perhaps I've missed something).

We should take an age poll. Because my hypothesis is the mean age is between 30 and 42. Like you my youth was spent living in the BT world. Now I'm married, management level position at a large company, full time grad student for psychology, and researching my dissertation. I still have time to fit a few games in.
Welcome to the club of married folks with awesome spouses that don't mind the other playing their childhood dream...piloting a mech!!!

My situation is that I currently have a difficult time scheduling anything with a newborn that needs bottles at random intervals and a 2 year old running around. My Merc corp has granted me a "Supplemental/Reserve" status such that I can drop in with them to reinforce their numbers when applicable, otherwise drop in random matchmaking groups when my free time doesn't correlate with their drop schedule.

Our multi-gaming guild has 100s of members in many different games, all mature adults with jobs and families.
We play when we can, some can play more then others, we have our prime time just like any other game or guild, so it is definitely doable.

Ya rounds dont last that long, unless Piranha screwed it royally. You'll probably find yourself splitting mechlab and fights into two different sessions though.

anyone who "lives" a game as you described needs to get a life.
