Non-canon leads to speculative ideas.

Speculative ideas lead to fan-fic.

Fan-fic leads to cross-overs.

Cross-overs lead to a MadCat piloted by a sparkling Vampire, or mercenaries units made up of the worst sections of furries and bronies.

I'll stay with canon, thank you very much.

This man speaks the truth, I've seen what happens when non-canon fiction goes feral. It's not pretty.

I prefer canon, the closer we stay with cannon ( I tend to be a little more liberal in the MECH LAB ) the better. But I do understand if we where to not expand beyond it a little then there would week if not month long repairs, modding a mech could happen but the cost wouldn't alow it more than once because the up keep alone would leave us bankrupt.

I prefer Canon, I won't lie there will be parts where the game will need to be updated. I am aware of this. I don't think vast changed need to be made like different kinds of medium lasers or whatever having different fire rates and damage ratio's and whatnot... heat alone would be a nightmare to balance at that point.

All else fails, if they completely drop the ball, thank god it's free and no money investment.

canon. Yes, the Clan invasion is well documented by both the Inner Sphere Houses and Comstar. How much is real and how much is propaganda? With Comstar's Operation Scorpion taking down most of the HPGs during the critical battle we may only be seeing the official "sanitized for the media" version of events - the truth of the matter could be much worse than we know.

I have seen Black Templars with daemon wives and xenos servants.

I have seen Colonial Marines fighting xenomorphs with ponies at their side.

I have seen antropomorphic wolves fighting alongside Mobile Infantry troops.

I have seen art of Edward the Sparkling making out with Blade.

I have seen the Hulk intimate with Thor.

I have seen the world burn and heard the hideous laughter of fanfic fiends cavorting in the ruins. I have been spared (for the most part) with BattleTech. I hope it stays that way.

Please.

But did those canon mechs have cannons?

Yuppers!

Just like in MW:DA/AoD they were modded with weapons, but no cameras. I mean, really, would you want anyone to know that you were piloting a farmbot during the last galactic war?

If I managed to take said farmbot against real battlemechs and win? You bet your sweet bippy I would be bragging about it. Just the ultimate proof that steel is strong, but flesh and skill are stronger.

Keep your Autocannons, I prefer Hatchets, they never run out of ammo or cause my mech to explode when their ammo bin gets hit. With that said, I'd like to see a little piece of canon be introduced into the offspring of Battletech that has been missing for so many years, might I suggest... mech melee combat?

With that said and done, I generally side with canon over non-canon seeing as one is the creator's vision and the other is not. Additionally, to consider cannon separate from a franchise is silly when they are clearly part and parcel. You can't very well accept a franchise without accepting it's canon because for all intents and purposes they're inseparable. It'd be like someone loving Wolverine but not accepting the canonicity of his Canadian origins just because they hate Canada, it's ridiculous.

I also like it to be as much canon as possible.

That said i would prefer a canon historical setting at start that the playerbase is then able to influence and make their own history from by fighting for their respective faction.

I wouldn't want noncanon to take over battletech lore, it would ruin everything (ok, maybe not everything, but you get my point).

I remember the Riddle of Steel well, and realize that there are multiple answers to the riddle, with varying levels of validity. My view of the Mechwarrior's answer is that the pilot (flesh and skill) makes the mech. If the pilot falters, the Mech is a lump of usless metal.

The problem of insisting on absolute canon "history" after launch is that it would make it totally pointless to play the game if you could not influence the outcome at all.

One can adhere to canon without using it as a set-in-stone script.

It's a necro... why people dredge stuff up from 3+ weeks ago is beyond me, clearly the conversations have moved on but, alas :)
