I know we've all seen numerous threads concerning Mech 16, and what it could be. We all have our favorites and are eagerly waiting for them, but how wrong would it be if PGI actually created their OWN mech?

First of all there are numerous cannon Mech producers (in Universe) out there, both large and small that could "produce " this new design. And by new, I mean new to us, the players. It could easily be added to the Universe as a seldom seen, or low production number mech.

How many facilities were mentioned in the TRO's as only producing a few mechs a year until the Helm Memory Core information was made wide spread?

They could give us a 95 ton mech with a number of variants to allow a wide number of options in the Mechlab with the hardpoints, including Jump Jets.

Making it an Assault class fills our open class slot, and makes it an expensive choice if you want an option to literally build your Mech by purchasing the variant that matches the hard point loadout style you like.

The problem here is there are many, many mechs that fans are dying to see before PGI even considers bringing in their own designs.

You cite a 95 ton mech with jump jets? Already have that. It's called the Highlander and is a fan favorite for the "Highlander burial" (Death-from-Above with an Assault mech).

Waaayyy too soon for PGI to introduce anything new when there are hundreds of designs already out there that are very popular and would fill any role the developers need

That would be cool IF they did a good job on it.

Personally I hate the idea.

There is already an entire battletech universe out there, seems stupid to stray from it that much already.

Oooh. Highlander.

Warhammer would also be acceptable, if possible.

They won't do it (thanks God).

It's like making a WW2 game and adding a fictitious weapon because you want to fill some gaps? Come on! This is not the type of the game that it's being made here. If the devs really need some different mechs for special roles, they will find them in the canon.

It looks like that's their search sequence:

1- A common mech (preferable one that is in the Battletech starting box);
2- An uncommon mech (like the Star Leagle designs);
3- A reseen (trust me, the reseens have LOTS of variants for all sort of roles).

So far they needed only to use the option 1.

What people don't get it is that the Battletech universe is a complex, living world. You don't need to invent new things: there are plenty already done just waiting for the taking.

That.

No true fan of BT would ask a non-canon mech design. Looks even a childish thing to me.

adding something fictional to fiction isnt like adding something to a WW2 game.
also adding something new that looks and plays nice is a good thing.

for the warhammer they would have to make an own design that looks a bit more different than the current redesingsqq and give it a different name,

I'm personally hoping for a Hatamoto-Chi or Zeus.

If the game stays around long enough to churn through all the existing 'mechs, sure.

Though I wouldn't mind some getting skipped 'cuz of fugly. Then again, they've done some excellent makeovers (Centurion and Dragon, in particular) so maybe none of those need to be skipped.

It's not the same but feels the same for us who made it through all the BT history.

but it might be the only way to get the warhammer into the game, even if it than would have a different name.

Other games have added new mechs. not the end of the world.

But, the best reason against is that there are so many canon mechs to pick, any niche they would try to fill with a new design has probably already been filled.

An exception would be a new mech with the same loadout as an existing Unseen; a spiritual successor with a new name, a new look, but the same build.

Hell, just having the 'mechs from the BT starter box, and leaving others out would make a good game at this time.

With the plentitude of designs already in existence there is no need to add new ones and with UNSEEN/RESEEN issues and Lostech 'mechs aplenty, the devs can take their time sorting out game balance vs. fan requests.

They don`t need to change the name! The only problem with the unseen is their looks (taken from Animes). They could still add the Warhammer/Marauder/etc. with the reseen design (it's not as beautiful, but I'm sure Alex Iglesias could make killer concept arts).
