In my mind, the only reason for giving the $120 as opposed to waiting for "the free product" was a feature I fell blindly, and totally in love with -- the concept of community warfare. My underlying assumption is that everyone else had something in particular that they fell in love with and wanted desperately to see brought into fruition.
Instead, what is winning by far is sheer devotion to the concept of the game regardless of the particular features. This is truly impressive; and I hope PGI is taking this into consideration. This level of trust from a playing community is, to my mind, unprecedented.
Well done PGI, and wtg to us, the community.
"Long live the fighters!"
Oops, wrong canon.
Long live MW:O!

Also the amount of founders will give the devs the feeling that they are doing a good job and thus will encourage them to keep it up!
OK, for a moment i was calculating: 120$ are 100€ (me being german) and that translates into 100 Cheesburgers at a well known burger franchise or to put it into a better currency: about 192 bottles of beer... in the end the mechs won ;-)

Games like Call of Duty (multiplayer portion) and Counter-Strike hold not interest for me. The twitch-shooter, learn maps and shoot in likely corners before seeing someone and win, if you're winning I'm a noob but if I'm winning, I'm hacking, kind of playstyle is completely unfulfilling (TO ME). A thinking person's game (Arma, MWO) requires more than just fast reflexes. Teamwork, communication, and a sense of being part of something greater than yourself are what I enjoy. MechWarrior Online delivers that in spades.
The Founder pack is too much of a 'donation' in and of itself. My rationale: While most games are running around $60, I could see paying $60 just for the game. An extra $60 on top of that for what I get in the Founders pack is more than what I normally pay for extra content, but because this game is so much more than COD will ever be, I can see it as my small part in stacking the odds in MWO's favour. Just like voting in elections, by placing my money in MWO, I have 'casted my vote' into what I want to see in this and future games. Devs won't continue to make games where there is no money.
tl;dr version - MWO is infinitely better than COD (IMO), and I want to spend my money on a product that I will enjoy.

The kids should just be playing the game next to you. When I was a <10 I played MechWarrior 2. Compare the graphics. They have it made. For added fun, drive an Atlas and put them in Commandos.
