Im used to using Skype when using headsets with my friends to play various MMOs. I want to lance up with some of you FWLers. So, for the uninitiated like me, would some one put up a thread on how to use Teamspeak and how to get some FWL premades going. I dont like getting rolled by premades when in PUGs. I must say that on occasion a PUG is fun and will win if coordinating but most of the time its pancake time.

Thanks ahead of time and I look forward to kicking *** with you guys in game

How to install TS3: Go to http://www.teamspeak...?page=downloads

Install the client version for your OS.

How to run TS3:

Select the icon on your desktop.

How to setup your TS3 Client:

Follow the instructions in the setup wizard.

How to connect to a server:

Click connect. Input the IP Address & Password. Add a nickname then click connect.

And that's about all you need to know.

Hey all... a little help with a quick question.

New to MWO and playing on a laptop... will Teamspeak generally work with onboard laptop mics or will i have to buy a headset?

Thanks!

Teamspeak will work on a laptop mic. I would use a "touch to talk" or key activated configuration; as the laptop mic will pick up all of your game sounds and background sounds and broadcast them to everyone else on the teamspeak channel. Just check your recording device in teamspeak settings. does mean using an overlay to make sure it works it game but map it to a key that can be easily used during combat, I use the Q key to serve a double purpose.

As Mark posted, use the push to talk option so folks don't hear you all the time. If you don't want the game noise to feedback then you can get a normal set of headphones/earbuds so you hear the game and TS but they don't hear your laptop speakers.

It also helps if you speak with a posh British accent, as per the Marik style.

Hey, is there a free client for team speak at all? Thanks!

The TS3 Client is free on their site. It's larger servers that require money.

So which is the best to download, TS-wise, the 32-bit or 64-bit, do you recommend?

If you have a 32-bit system, then download the 32-bit TS3 client. If you have a 64-bit system, download the other one.

Thanks all for your advise. I like the suggestion of using Q for push to talk. The first time I tried TS my PC crashed, I think I downloaded the wrong version. I just downloaded the TS3 64 bit now I am ready to try again.

A few answers to questions above.

which is best 32 or 64. YOU NEED THE ONE THAT MATCHES YOUR OS. 64bit or 32bit OS installed? that is the one that will work for you.

LAPTOPS (headphones? laptop mic) A laptop mic will work HOWEVER it will pick up all sounds, including those from the game on laptop speakers. Because of this you will get a feed back loop and will have all kinds of problems. You need to mute the speakers so you'd have to use headphones with a laptop mic. It needs to hear "only your voice only when you talk".

I'm a noob, so why team speak rather than the built in VOC? I've used both. Team speak is kind of a pain. The built in VOC I suspect changes automatically to those you are with no matter switching from quick match or team unit? I suspect team speak uses more bandwidth? My internet is slow (only kind I can get is 3G here) so I don't want to slow my ping down if that's the case with teamspeak. (seems so) due to higher quality audio?)

You realize you're responding to a 3-year old post, right? Lol. Also, pancakes are flat. He's talking about getting flattened by the opposition. FWL is the "Free Worlds League" as illustrated by the enormous purple words under the OP's post. lol
