Read the Battletech novel Ideal War sometime in the early 90s, quickly went out and got the board game when I found out such existed. Got a copy of MW2 Mercs that I coaxed into playing on my Mom's IBM Aptiva 386. Oh the framerates...

Well it's time to show may age, I played the original mechwarrior on my friends PC so that would be 1988 or 1989?.

I also played Battletech : Crescent Hawks Intercept and Crescent Hawks Revenge when I got my own PC (1990ish)

From the start of it all, Well almost. started playing the board game in 85-86 with the cardboard picture Mechs. All the Mechwarrior and battle tech type video games.
I MW1, I remember setting up my lance of 4 BattleMasters on the last mission and working on the head shots against the lance of 4 BattleMaster Mechs. I was good at the head shot.

Been into Battletech since it started. I remeber getting City Tech after a few months and all the new Mechs (Hunchback!). Played every BT video game since.

As I said before on one or two other forums, it was the Legend of the Jade Phoenix trilogy (Robert Thruston) that introduced me to the series, followed immediately after ny MechWarrior 3 31 Century Combat and MechWarrior 2 - Ghost Bears Legacy and ten when MechWarrior 2: Mercenaries was released, I enjoyed it so much that I think from that time on, I was a die-hard fan.
The books "Main Event" and "D.R.T" (both by Jim Long) secured my place in battleTech to this day.

I am looking at my copy of MW2. I bought it new I am looking at setting up a couple of machines to be able to play the older versions.
I am quite sure that I am older than most of the people here.

I've been a MW fan since i was around 10, when I got MW2. Was 1995, and times were great, MW2 and a joystick... what else was needed? lol

I was lucky in that my father was a programmer and always had the fastest, best computers available and was able to fully enjoy the series as it evolved.

That might be a bit difficult now, since most of the early games are incompatible with curent day computers. But I wish you luck in trying to run them and, if I can ask a favour, if you do manage to get them to work, can you pas on any tips as to how you made them work on your computer?

When I was like 5, my dad had Mechwarrior 2 installed on his PC and I gave it a wack...I think my first run ever was on the Jade Falcon campaign in a Kitfox.....I didnt get very far...even when I went back and played the game again a few years ago I only got to the like 2nd Trail position mission where I was in a Kit Fox against a Summoner....haha

I also played Mechcommander 1 when I was like 6 or so but never had a clue what it was or how to play it so I never got past the first farm defense mission. I went back a few years ago and played that game every day all day for forever and a day, beating the campaign many, many, many times and to this very moment love that game and hate that it no longer works on Win 7. I have spent hundreds of hours on that game and it still retains that new car smell for me everytime I log into it... I also messed around with the board game version for a little while with my dad...think I had a Dire Wolf in the battle we played, always was a fan of the big mechs with huge guns.

i started playing mw 3 merc in the late 90s and was hooked from the start still got the old cds of mercs and all the other ones too the last now i am wateing on this on hope it gets out soon as i am dieing to go mech hunting with a light mech

I started in the Battletech Universe in 1986. Tabletop games soon grew into moving the living room furniture out of the way as our lances got bigger. Many hours spent painting minatures and setting up the styrofoam hexagons for the planets surface.

Now I am -sure- that I am in the minority here, but I've really only just begun. I stumbled upon this universe as a happy accident, and I've kinda just thrown myself headlong into it. I've gone back and downloaded the mechwarrior games to keep me busy and I'm having fun getting the feel for the tabletop with a great group of people. Can't get enough of it.

I was about 6-7 when my father brought home Mechwarrior 2 and started playing it online with his friends and myself, It was the first multiplayer game that i was allowed to play, and It grew into something that was a great bonding experiance.

Started playing BT in 1987 (just after Battle Droids - it's been a long time). Played everything since the Crescent Hawk series. Never played the online games, much, since the PvP modes were so obviously broken. I have zero desire to practice my 1337 circle strafing skilz.

I started with the TT in summer of 1997 (I think). Got MW2 and Mechcommander:Gold in 1998. Finished MW2 single player (both sides, with that last trial taking me many attempts). Never had MW2:Ghost Bear Legacy or MW2:Mercenaries and didn't have a good enough connection to play online.

Mechcommander campaign was really fun until I got horribly stuck on that stupid farm defense mission (which it seems like it was a stumbling block for most people). Ended up cheating my way through it in the end. but still enjoyed it.

Loved MW3 single player (had the best campaign IMHO, gutted it doesn't work on newer PCs). Got MW4 and MC2 when they came out . Played MW4 online a bit but not much. All of this while keeping in with the TT occasionally. Recently been replaying MC2 and MW4:Mercenaries but I wasn't really that interested in the campaign for Mercenaries. I imagine it would be much more gripping with it being multiplayer. Can't wait for MWOnline to launch.

Favourite Mech: Mad dog/Vulture (although I prefer the inner sphere name for it)
