Urbanmech is an oversized R2D2 with AC10 strapped to it. How is it possible not to love it? Also this. B)

Oh, and antennae! It has antennae!

Yep the urbie is the ultimate underdog and also in tabletop battletech the cheapest option to fill a gap in the roster. and still quite nasty in city combat.

The problem with the urbanmech is that, once the novelty of piloting one wears off, not many people are going to bother with it. So the devs waste precious resources and time coding in what amounts to a gimmick.

Pretty much this. I remember when the UrbanMech and UrbanMech IIC where first introduced to MW4 by MekTek - there where entire servers with nothing but UrbanMech vs. UrbanMech combat! Fast-forward a week or two and nobody was piloting one aside for random, silly purposes.

Urban mechs are only viable in a game with a working economy of sorts. The cheap Urbie would do wonders here if you are suffering from attrition.

Urbanmech advantages: the only 30-tonner with an AC20 (& that's 3025-tech), cheap as chips, nobody shoots at you in a grand melee, can be mech-labbed with a PPC or Large Laser instead of that autocannon & a much bigger engine, causes all kinds of panic in a city fight.

Although I think a lot of Brits like it because it reminds us of Mr. Blobby. :P

The AC/20 variant of the Urbanmech strips 2 tons of armour, so it's even easier to destroy in addition to its speed. Your notion is too romantic for online play - people will target threats they can neutralise quickly, especially if they can deal out a lot of damage. If you have one AC/20 Urbanmech and one Atlas, you will alpha strike that Urbanmech first to wipe it out before focusing on the Atlas.

If there are any good city maps (or the above said economical system) in the game the Urbanmech can play a role.

But otherwise it's just wasted money and time for the devs.

I always looked at the Urbie as the cheapest way to defend a city. Setup a city defense scenario, sprinkle a few Urbies in there and BOOM, your city is well defended.

The Urbie can wreck havoc on a invading Lance caught in a city.. It's that simple.. It's a small lightwieght and slow "assault" mech.. Which is an oxymoron.

Never liked them due to the look. But, this is a perfect example of, "to each his own". What I think looks cool, may not to another person.

If you ever have smashed a Banshee 3E with him to the ground, then you know what URBIE-POWER is. :D

Regardless of if you love it or hate it.... I will still be quite disappointed if it is one of the starting mechs because it means they took the time to put it in game instead of a useful mech. Don't get me wrong I want it to be in the game... Just don't see why you need to put a lemon of a mech in the game right away.

I may bash the Urbanmech, but I won't disrespect the Urbanmech.
I successfully deployed a full lance of these little trashcans in a decidedly NOT urban environment, against the "superior" designs. And won.
I'll admit, every time I see an Urbie coming my way, I expect to see billboard ads along the sides, or the classic soda can labels, like Coke, Pepsi, A&W... or even a license plate number running down the side.

Urbanmechs, despite their name, can fit into some really messed up places... AI managed to squeeze one in between a Generator and a turret control once. That little AC-10 was wittling away at my Atlas for the next 5 minutes... before I dropped a Long Tom on the little *******.

the ac20 urb can probaby cripple a mech in its own weight class with one or 2 shots and its jump jets should let it pick when to fight in a urban map when fighting heavy mechs , i bet 3 of them could probaby beat a atlas in urban areas ,

have one jump behind it and blast em and when he turns to shoot have the other 2 pop around the corner and do the same.

if we can custom paint our mechs im going to get my urbie painted up like a roof top ac unit or a water tower

Its almost like a hunchbacks disliked little bro.
It looks kinda like R2-D2,.
You can really show off by winning a match with one.
and lastly everyone like an underdog.

Come on guys, I may not love or obsess about it but it has a place in this universe.

If When the Urban Mech makes it into MWO, everyone will know that that pilot is having a "silly day". I love traveling 56kph in a lightly armored pringles can.
