I give the robots at my job pet names cuz they almost look like animals when they work, lol. This one i call Mackie because it's the first robot i ever operated, and last week it was the first robot i ever programmed. This MIG welding robot is mostly used to create trailer hitches, axles for ATVs, RTVs, riding lawn mowers and other stuff that Kubota puts out.
I can't keep track of all the stuff these robots make but so far i've used this specific robot to weld together front bumper guards for RTVs and ATVs. This specific one when used at it's full potential can be operated by two different people, creating up to three or four different parts(depending on how many jigs are in use) all at once. Only issue with this one is that you have to keep the MIG welding nozzle clean more than usual or it'll go NOMNOM on the parts causing perosity in the welds.
I've been a robotic welder at my job since August last year(been a welder since 2007) and just started on-the-job training to be a programmer last week. I'm actually going to college this fall for drafting school and then off to mechanical engineering school after that cuz i'm going to attempt to invent a real Battlemech(probably the size of the APU on Matrix Revolutions). Probably will take most of my life to make a practical prototype but it's only a matter of time now when the Battlemech comes out. Sure fusion reactors don't exist but there's nothing to stop me from putting a wankel engine in my prototype. And yes, i will call my prototype Mackie! WOOT
I don't have a pet name for this robot. Everybody just calls it "Robot#7". The previous robot i showed everybody calls "Robot#15"

As for more modern robots, here's PETMAN

I wish neurobiology research was faster.... we still don't have neural interfaces.
