Mackie, and Osiris is one I'm not too fond of either.

The Osiris is one that fared a LOT better in the TT game than MW, despite being made for MechWarrior. While it got upgraded to decently usable in MW4: Mercs (from really bad in Vanilla), in the board game, it's just a nightmare: Incredibly fast, loaded to hell and back with medium pulses.. it's easily one of the best IS 30 tonners there is.
I kind of wonder what the MW4 art team is doing. One thing I think we can all agree on is with the exception of the Mad Cat MK2, all of the new 'mechs they made were some of the best designs seen in the universe in a while visually in years. The Uziel has gone on to be one of the most iconic 'mechs of BattleTech in general and I'm a huge fan of the look of the Argus's style. The only shame is we won't be seeing them in MWO due to timeline issues, but still, major props to whoever made them.

My contention was not with the speed, visual design or armor on the Osiris but the tiny weapons ports under MW4 mechlab. (3 energy, 2 MG, 1 missile.) That concern could be a moot point in MWO depending on the base config and what customization is allowed.

snip (reads well though)
That's actually a good point in regards to 60 tonner limitations and why they don't fill some roles very well, despite there being some great 60 tonners; it's more in spite of it, than because of it. Honestly I think the single best IS 60 tonner out there is the Argus in Tabletop (ironic since the game that created it made it little more than a slightly heavier Bushwacker); the model with an ER PPC and 2 LRM15s is pretty stellar as a support 'mech.
It's kind of a shame that we likely won't get to see 'mechs of that era unless MWO does a timeline jump later on. Oh well, there's plenty of awesome (and overlooked!) 'mechs to choose from in the setting!
The 60T deficiencies noted above have a Min/Max hint to them. Should the Dev just skip that weight range? No. There are a lot of Mechs to choose from, as noted, and not all will be the Best of the Min/Max-able best but that is not always a bad thing. Challenge in MW is often driving a sub-par design (when seen against the min/max view) and doing well with it.
Given enough Variants, and room to Modulize any design, it sounds like finding THE Mech for each player might actually require some work and driving different designs first, as opposed to the previous games where you went to the Interweb, looked up the FOTM, went to the Lab, created a cookie cutter and fielded it.
That sucked the FUN out of the last versions. I wish to not go there again if it can be helped. Stock designs and Variants is a great step in the right direction imho.
P.S. The Argus is/has always been my ride of choice. I am a sad panda,

I know it's not in our timeframe but you definitely forgot 1 Mech in here .....
Mist Lynx A
1 TAG, 2 A-Pods, 2 MGs, 1 Flamer and 2 AMS .... I mean come on, can't get any worst than that now, can it?

'Mechs a 'mech baby, and there is no such thing as a bad one over none at all.
When I lost my Archer during the 4th Sucession War I took up in a salvaged Banshee 3E. I stuck with it until 3035 (5 years of real time). Went undefeated week in week out.
Warhammers, Marauders, Thunderbolts and Battlemasters all dropped before an oversinked, overreved, underarmored assault 'Mech b/c of good sniping, overwhelming charges, powerful melee brawls, and always running cool.
Even the worst 'Mechs have strengths and strategies, you just have to play to them. You don't play a Scorpion like a Victor, nor do you run a Charger like an Atlas. Too many ppl have their favorites and play exclusively to them.
The great thing I see with MWO and the mechlab limitations and role warfare is it will force people out of their comfort zone and give them a fresh perspective. After a few matches that Awesome pilot will be loving his autocannon-weilding, hardcharging Dragon!

Personally, I loved the Scorpion in TT. PPC and a SRM 6 is a pretty good combo, and the speed with the special manuverability trait it had made it pretty fast, all things considered. It was designed to kill 20 ton Scout mechs and it was really good at it, and could snipe bigger mechs at range. I also liked the fact it got two kicks... or was it punches? I fergets.
Blackjack was meh. In TT it sucked against other mechs... I mean, if you were a Wasp, you actually felt like you had a chance against it. Making the AC 2s fire faster might make it more toleratable in a video game as a 'sniper' mech... but I never saw AC 2s to jack unless in mass.
To me, a speciality mech I never wanted to be stuck with that wasn't on the first list was the Fire Starter. I was never a fan of flamers on mechs, so a dedicated flamer mech (when it wasn't a combined arms game) was always... eh.

I liked the Panther... it had the same role as the Scorpion... kill light mechs. And it was good at it because a PPC was a penetrating shot most times against lights. Only problem with it was that it was slow... but talk about a house wrecker once new tech came out and you could upgrade it!
