When ya think about Mech designs they are likely to pick, think about actual tonnages. Outside of the 50-tonners so far, they have not duplicated weights yet. I don't think that they will, at least not to start. Too many great mechs to pull from! I think they got the Centurion due to its historical significance (like it or not, it is the Yen Lo Wang), and the Hunchback because it is one of the best known carriers of the AC-20. So, until they dupe another weight class OTHER THAN 100 TON MECHS (100-tonners tend to get a bump due to "iconicness"), I'm gonna predict using this matrix:

20: (Locust: iconic Mech; lots of variants; fun, fast recon Mech)

25: Commando

30: (Urbanmech or Javelin. I prefer the Javelin, but the Urbie might get it from fan love/hate alone.)

35: Jenner

40: (Clint or Whitworth. I like the Clint; better variants and faster)

45: (Phoenix Hawk or Vindicator. As much as I love th PH, I'm gonna go Capellan and say Vindi)

50: Centurion, Hunchback

55: (Amazing choices here. S-Hawk, Wolvie, Griffin. Gonna go Wolverine for now.)

60: Dragon

65: Catapult

70: (Warhammer. Anything else is a BAD IDEA for the first Mech at this weight.)

75: (Marauder or Orion. Same reason as the Warhammer. I like the Orion here.)

80: (Awesome. The fans have the right idea here.)

85: (Battlemaster. Iconic, lots of variants, cool Mech.)

90: (Cyclops. Lots of variants, cool design, classic command Mech. I'd rather the Highlander, tho...)

95: (SIGH. Banshee. Its gonna happen; its HYPER common for an assault, lots of variants, and lots of love/hate)

100: Atlas

20: Locust
25: Commando
30: Javelin
40: Clint
45: Phoenix Hawk
55: Shadowhawk
70: Warhammer
75: Marauder, Marauder, Marauder... or maybe the Marauder
80: Awesome but POSSIBLE a Victor cause this just screams "FD Do Me"
85: Battlemaster (Stalker? Really?)
90: Highlander (fan fav)
95: Banshee (agree, hate this machine but it's probably a good bet)

20: (Locust: iconic Mech; lots of variants; fun, fast recon Mech) /Nope, it's Unseen, If there is a 20 tonner, it'll be a Flea or Hornet.

25: Commando

30: (Urbanmech or Javelin. I prefer the Javelin, but the Urbie might get it from fan love/hate alone.) / A Spider could also be a lot of fun...
35: Jenner

40: (Clint or Whitworth. I like the Clint; better variants and faster) /Clint's rare as hell, I say Assassion. or Cicada.

45: (Phoenix Hawk or Vindicator. As much as I love th PH, I'm gonna go Capellan and say Vindi) /PP is Unseen. Vindicator is possible. Iconic Liao.

50: Centurion, Hunchback

55: (Amazing choices here. S-Hawk, Wolvie, Griffin. Gonna go Wolverine for now.) /Shadowhawk, Griffin, and Wolverine are unseen. Dervish or Hoplite.

60: Dragon

65: Catapult

70: (Warhammer. Anything else is a BAD IDEA for the first Mech at this weight.) /Warhammer is unseen. Cataphract, Grasshopper or Caesar. all decent mechs.
75: (Marauder or Orion. Same reason as the Warhammer. I like the Orion here.) /Marauder is unseen. Orion or...yeha the Orion. Nobody loves the Marauder more than me, but the Orion is a sort of pretty ugly that I can dig.

80: (Awesome. The fans have the right idea here.)/ Victor or Zeus is also a good choice. I do think Awesome is most likely. I'd love a Hatamoto Chi, but that's not likely before the game's released.

85: (Battlemaster. Iconic, lots of variants, cool Mech.)/ Battlemaster is Unseen, Stalker is a better mech in any case, unholy amounts of firepower. Used by all states.

90: (Cyclops. Lots of variants, cool design, classic command Mech. I'd rather the Highlander, tho...) I think the Mauler will be the first 90 tonner as it's been mentioned several times.

95: (SIGH. Banshee. Its gonna happen; its HYPER common for an assault, lots of variants, and lots of love/hate). /The base design is carp, the Lyran refit is the hands down best 3025 era assault mech. Absolutely devastating. Only 95 tonner for the era, so yeah.

Man, if they release an unseen, the forum traffic will drop in half! Whatever will we argue about then?

85:stalker, battlemaster. I would be happy with either both are good solid designs.
90:cyclops i know some would say mauler but kurita already has enough mechs
95 has to be the banshee hopefully the lyran rebuilt version.

They seriously have to have the Warhammer and Marauder( and most common variant, the 2c)....those mechs are massively Iconic, along with the Deathshead Atlas of course. No other mechs are more recognized for the brand then those 3.

And for Clan Mechs, the equivalent would be the Mad Cat.

They can use the Reseen (Project Phoenix) version or do a Reboot to get around the unseen issue.

The Reseen mechs have very poor art in comparison to the originals.

For a Warhammer, the Hammerhands (Davion old mech) is suitable, it's better than the awful phoenix art.

The reason a lot of those old designs are popular is because of their great art, not their overall capability. I'm sure FD could make a pile of *** look like gold, but what's the point of starting with something like the phoenix artwork. Over at the Battletech Forums, there's been mention of a re-reseen project (retconning the old unseen stuff)

As Battletech has been using better artists recently, this could work, and give people like FD much mroe freedom in making amazing work.

Project Phoenix is a horrible fail however IMO.

I'm a little more forgiving, but I still only give Project Phoenix less than 50% success. If you F-up the Warhammer as bad as they did, you Fail on principle.

My picks for what they can still do for mechs...
Assault...
Cyclops, Stalker, Zeus, Victor, and Awesome
Heavies...
Orion and Grasshopper... maybe Quickdraw
Mediums...
Dervish, Trebuchet, Vindicator, Whitworth, and Assassin... maybe Clint and Enforcer
Lights...
Javelin, Spider, and Panther... maybe Urbanmech

I am skipping over specialized mechs (Jager and Firestarter) and obviously the Unseen (which I am confidant they will add in due to statements they have made). The Whitworth and Trebuchet have to support the Catapult as dedicated LRM boats so are needed IMO as battlefield artillery. I have also noticed that the Catapult and Jenner are the only jump mechs they have released (barring versions), so I can see more jump mechs being released.

20: Stinger
25: Commando (Mongoose is Next)
30: Urbanmech (meh)
35: Jenner (Raven is Next).
40: Assassin
45: Hatchetman (Come on, who does not love a hatchet and detachable head?)
50: Centurion
55: Scorpion (Upset Special). Good place to Introduce the Quads.
60: Dragon (Next is Rifleman)
65: Catapult (Next is Jagermech)
70: Archer (Upset Special 2). Good Missile Boat
75: Orion (I'd Love to see the Black Knight here. Great Heavy Command Mech)
80: Awesome (Would love to see the Charger. Great flexible platform lots of cannon variants)
85: Battlemaster (Stalker would be cool though. Not a lot of choices at this weight).
90: Cyclops
95: Banshee (Not much of a choice at this weight)
100: Atlas

As an aside, I don't discount Unseen/Reseen Mechs at all. Having a new (and so far amazing) concept artist to redesign the Reseen designs (AKA not make them look like they are big pods of guns barely held together with a bit 'o robot) can make a better fusion of the old, iconic design and the newer, non-copyright infringing Reseens. Besides, several of those designs have more variants, better builds, and whatnot than anything in their tonnage.

Agreed (And not just because you live scrait up the screet from me and know where I live.)

My take on mechs I'd like to see at each weight class

20 tons: Stinger or Locust (I have a soft spot for the stinger, but I love a good locust design too)

25 tons: Commando (Such an awesome little 'mech, and it has TONS of nostalgia for me from MW2 Mercs!)

30 tons: Javelin or Urbanmech (I like the Javelin, but it's very similar to the Commando, no Laser, couple of more SRM's, Urbanmech may make the cut as the fan favorite. We'll see.)

35 tons: Wolfhound, or Panther. (Very common designs, I know I'm going to catch flak for not saying Raven, which is an amazing recon platform, but they're rather rare, unlike the two I just listed. I hope for the Wolfhound, personally.)

40 tons: Clint. (Great all around design, Much prefer it over the faster, but weaker, Assassin.)

45 tons: Vindicator, or Phoenix Hawk (The Phoenix Hawk would be a great choice here, and I actually prefer it vs. the Vindi.)

50 tons: Hunchback & Centurion (Can't argue here. The only thing I'd like to see in addition is a Crab. Love that 'lil laser boat)

55 tons: Wolverine, (all the way, second choice would be the Shadow Hawk, no question asked, then the Griffon in third.)

60 tons: Dragon

65 tons: Catapult (I yearn for a Thunderbolt though..)

70 tons: Warhammer (Or Archer... or Cataphract.. unusual design that I'd love to see get the FD treatment, but the Warhammer, obvious choice!)

75 tons: Black Knight, Marauder, or Orion (Marauder is the fan favorite, and I love it to death too! I'd love to see the Black Knight though.)

80 tons: Awesome first, then Thug, then Zeus (The level of love I have for these 'mechs, and my desire to see them, in that order!)

85 tons: Battlemaster or Stalker (Love both of these 'mechs, but prefer the Battlemaster personally.)

90 tons: Highlander, Highlander, Highlander, or Highlander. Oh or maybe a Cyclops is ok too. (Did I mention my favorite 'mech is the Highlander?)

95 tons: Banshee. (Not a lot of options, as has been said.

100 tons: Atlas, (Another fun option, King Crab. :) )

That's my list.

<S> See y'all soon!

Oooh this thread was "closed" last time I tried, looks like the people have spoken ;)
I don't expect any "unseen" mechs, too much risk for a new project.

20: NONE (I think the Commando will be the lighest mech, I was actually surprised (and happy) to see it)
25: Commando (confirmed)
30: Urbanmech (Javelin is too similar to Comando, Spider.. maybe, but Urbie is a fav, even if no one plays it)
35: Panther & Jenner (confirmed) (raven is popular but Panther brings more options to the table)
40: Witworth (I like Assassin but too similar to Jenner)
45: Blackjack (Vindicator is OK, but I think Panther will make and the BJ is unique at this weight)
50: Centurion & Hunchback (confirmed, this looks like a tough break for the Enforcer, we will see)
55: NONE (Only real option is Dervish, but I think the Unseen have made this slot untenable)
60: Dragon (Confirmed)
65: Catapult (Confrimed)
70: NONE (maybe a Grasshopper but Thor is definately coming later)
75: Orion
80: Awesome & Zeus (I just wan the Zeus soo bad, but if the Orion makes it the Zeus may not, and the Awesome is a gimme)
85: NONE (maybe Stalker, but I would much rather see another 80 tonner)
90: Cyclops
95: NONE (Maybe a Banshee or Executioner after Clan invasion)
100: Atlas (confirmed)

It is very possible, with 55 tons being the level of the "Unseen 3," 50 tons having 2 already, and both 60 and 65 being stocked up already, that 55 tons and 70 tons might be skipped at launch. 20 tons will probably have a choice, as it will be the "intro Mech." Good points tho, Big Wille.

Theory-crafting is FUN!

30: Javelin (Battle Hawk would be nice)
35: Panther
40: Whitworth

55: Dervish
60: Dragon
65: Catapult
70: Grasshopper
75: Orion
80: Zeus
85: Stalker (Really really)
90: Highlander

According to Sarna.net, the original artwork for the Locust, Griffin, Shadow Hawk, Thunderbolt, Scorpion, Wolverine, and BattleMaster, are viable again . It's only the Macross/Robotech stuff that's still unseen.
