Personally I usually get caught in a situation where no matter what I choose it ends badly. Though I will say that sometimes, if I remember my dreams, I can usually use them as the basis to get a good story going.

It's called Lucid Dreaming. I still do on and off - basically if you're having a nightmare you say "wait, why am I not just shooting this thing?" and then you pull out a Quake 1 rocket launcher and annihilate whatever was after you.

Though personally I lean more towards sneaky backstabbery

I believe I've done this a few times, yet they always turn out gross. One ended with a guy screaming as bugs that ate bone marrow attacked him.

Lucid dreaming is tricky to induce though. A lot of the time if you realize you are dreaming you snap awake. Some people do it innately, but you can learn to do it.
