What format are the skirmishes? Is it a 1-3 lances vs 1-3 lances or is there some advanced game types?

Something I've been wanting to know about this game for a while is, will it be a straight up WoT style 15v15 (except probably 2-3 lances vs 2-3 lances) or will it have some more complex scenarios? EG Assault/Defend maps, Escorts, Ambush's, varying sizes of engagements (one round may be 3mechs vs 3 mechs next one may be 20v20) a lance of small mechs trying to tackle a large mech (and getting squished), recon, pve, and a few others I can't be bothered listing? (I thought of that Inquiry while playing one of the SP Mech Games, and while I do know it'd be a lot of work, and would be a absolute ***** to balance properly, but if they do it'd be worth it(if done properly))

Nothing solid, but heavy hints from the Dev team that it won't just be 'Go here, shoot those guys.' As much as I enjoy taking a 'Mech to "Go there and shoot those guys.", most of the community, myself included, seem to agree that it gets a bit dull. If there aren't multiple mission types available at launch, look for them to start popping up pretty quickly.

Err... your numbers and terminology are off... a lance is 4 mechs. The game will be 16 vs 16, 4 lances vs 4 lances. Clans use 5 mechs and call it a star. You will not see clan mechs at launch, or any mechs using clan technology. It will come out at some point.

Edit: Pretty sure WoT is 16 vs 16 too...

So far we've only announced 12 v 12 or 3 lances on each side. We're hoping for more down the road, however early play tests indicate 12 v 12 is going to be very competitive and engaging.

Its almost confirmed we are definitely not getting 16 vs 16. We may get 12 vs 12, which is what they are shooting for but if things don't work out, then we be getting only 8 vs 8.

So I really really hope we get 12 vs 12 modes although my sweet spot is 16 vs 16.

edit : Ooops as what My Bryan said before my post

When we get to Mech Warfare month, it will become more clear why company vs company makes sense to start with. The larger the engagement, the more difficult it is to populate with players.

12v12 is perfect imo, for the reasons Bryan has given.

Dude I know EXACTLY how big a lance and a star is, how could you try and question such a basic piece of information with a man that's read easy over a dozen assorted battletech books? I said 2 or 3 lances because Many games such as this are 8v8 or something, and figured was a good amount to guess, and figured another lance would bring it up another few notches. Also 2-3 lances seemed to be a common garrison size in the games(and also logically), 3-5 lances and it'd have to be a pretty important target to defend or a fairly large engagement.
To be real though personally I'd really enjoy a few different battle sizes or maybe even a random battle button, as many engagements in Battle Tech were for example 1 Lance vs 1 Lance or something like that and would add a lot of variety to the game as there'd be different pacing because scouting would be more important with smaller engagements especially on the same size maps as the 3lance vs 3lance battles.

No need to be upset. You're new here. We get a shocking number of people here who know nothing about canon, nor want to learn about it. Best to assume people don't know about it.

I'm good with company level engagements. Makes it easy for the merc groups to set up a ToE that makes sense.

PS thanks Bryan for all the info around the forums. You've been super helpful with confirming things and making all of us more excited!

I would like to see a BG with the option of lance vs lance. You will be able to group up with a couple friends and have fun.

3 lances vrs 3 lances is pretty impressive concidering MW4merc was only 2 lances under your thumb at the best of times. those are going to be some great battles as long as the mix of mechs can remain out of the assault only catagory. im also hoping for KOTH solaris fights. 24 players. last person alive wins.

Our range is 1 v 1 up to 12 v 12 and all combinations in between, including lop sided.

I think 12v12 is a good number , the games that have larger amounts of players seem to have no organization ,the teams are all guys playing alone and often it shows.
12v12 will make it EZer to form and implement some form of strategy.
