hotas.
keyboard for directional is fail.. there are those who are mouse heads.. k thats fine.. BUT for a mech, using wasd for direction has one HUGE drawaback.
You have four directions. thats it.. There is no such thing as pressing W and A at the same time to move in direction Q<!0 oclock>
that means while moving laterally or rather , in an arc, you cannot maintain xhairs on target. The best you can do is spam between the two directions to achieve an approximation of the target area, which of course is fail again once you have used a hotas setup.
Its the second biggest problem with mwll, after collision terrain NoNsEnSe..
Having to use keyboard took away a whole toolkit of battlemoves I had developed in mw4.
Ive learned more linear attacks though recently in mwll to compensate , so I am looking forward to synthesizing the two now in mwo...
<thats the plan>

Mouse/keyboard. I am limited on funds. so i rather spend money on in-game things, than purchasing a 50 dollar joystick.

Regardless people should be able to use joystick, M/K, or controller if they want to. Along with complete customization of said schemes.

And i dont know what framiliarity of battletech has to do with control schemes.

I agree 100% - the average user won't spend a big chunk of their salary on a HOTAS setup, and shouldn't feel at a disadvantage for doing so- but I just hope I won't be at a disadvantage for going the immersive route. The problem with MWLL is that the mechs can aim very quickly, so a mouse is best. When I used a X-52 setup, I couldn't complete with the mouse users.

I will disagree 100% with you. For one the JS setup for mwll is essentially hotwired no? but as far as JS v Mouse? I had snap precision aim..mostly , with a saitek regular JS, and then a thrustmaster hotas setup in veng and mercs.
Ive
gotten better with mouse, but I know I am way better with JS. Way more precise than with mouse.
I dreamed !! :) I was playing this game with JS after I saw the trailer..
I must say that the mechs moved very smoothly and responded nicely . I killed at least one enemy backpeddling and turning , then slammed the throttle forward guns blazing.. sigh...
So saying JS puts you at disadvantage? no, that depends on user.

Joystick and Throttle plus pedals for torso is what I used for MW3 and before that was keyboard Mouse which I enjoyed very much. So far MW3 control Scheme is still my most prefered but everyone has a preference. it be nice if they could include every combination. do we get arm swing too or is it back to MW4?

I'm missing one option but it may be count as Keyboard + mouse ...

G13 + Mouse -> enough keys, D-Pad and mouse for aiming.

I used an "Xbox" controller for games like battlefield and Call of Duty, so I'd either use that or mouse and keyboard. Really want to try joystick if MW:O plays well with it, but it would take some getting used to for me.

I want to use a joystick. But current financial situation considered I'll probably be going keyboard/mouse for atleast a while when the game comes out. I'm pretty decent at controlling a mech in mw4mercs with K/M setup. If the controls are anything like that I'll be ok, but I'm sure I'll get used to anything different after putting in the hours I expect to put in to this game. :)

I don't get all the "joysticks are too expensive" nonsense. You can get some pretty good joysticks with twist handle rudder and throttle built in for 40 USD or less. Logitech's Extreme 3D Pro is built rock solid and is very reasonably priced.

Mostly I just want to know that my G-940 is going to be supported, and since it seems Paul uses one I have high hopes.

The $50 I have to spend on a joystick to be competitive is $50 less I'll spend on the game itself.

Keyboard + Mouse.

Joystick Keyboard (but only with keyboard if I run out of buttons on my joystick). I may consider a trottle but never pedals, I just can't get the hang of them, probably because I was spoiled with a z-axis joystick as a kid.

How about also including support for the Kinect for PC? head tracking for the torso twists and torso up/down movements and maybe even leaning left and right for turning left and right (I am usually doing that anyways when it starts to get dicey :P ). And how about Voice Command support as well? So, maybe dual joysticks (separate left and right crosshairs anyone?) for weapons, Kinect for turning and torso pitch/yaw, pedals for speed, and kinect/keyboard for various other commands that cant be mapped to the joysticks?

Barring all that, though, Joystick+keyboard was always more enjoyable than mouse+keyboard. :D

Track IR is cheaper than Kinect, but that's for another thread mostly.

Keyboard + Mouse.

So buy the MWO branded joystick, and get the best of both worlds.
