This is my mouse, the Logitech G700.

How I have it set up in MWLL is

Weapon groups
1 Left Mouse
2 right mouse
3 middle scroll wheel
4 back bottom thumb
5 forward bottom thumb

top forward thumb is my zooming
top back thumb i have to align torso/legs but it is so slow i rarely use it in MWLL

buttons along Mouse 1
first (forward) brings up my large tactical map
middle and back are my mouse sensitivity. I usually sit it at high, but when I snipe I may lower it down, or when I get in a close range BA battle.

Its real, the Corsair Vengeance M60. Its meant for RTS and MMO players, each button is programmable and has multiple 'on the fly' settings. Using built in memory it can remember multiple versions of setups and change them with the push of a button of the mouse.

It's M90. M60 (I got one btw) has only 5 additional buttons.
Always use a configuration like:
left - 1st group (most often used weapons with short reload time - small lasers, ac2-5)
right - 2nd group (powerfull punch weapons)
middle - 3rd group (missiles)
any other button - 4th group (irarely used, but when it is, is's flames, machneguns and other crap)
one side button - TeamSpeak
second side button - zoom
one button - DPI switch.
And one reserved - mostly for sniper function.

If you need more - welcome to naga club

jesus, those are some impressive amounts of buttons. i only use 3 weapon clusters in MW4 merc. right click is always a gauss or autocannon. left click is lasers of some sort. middle is missles.

I'd probably assign weapons groups similar to how they do it in the novels.

1 Left Side Mounted Weapons
2 Right Side Mounted Weapons
3 Long Range Only
4 Short Range Only
5 Versatile weapon for sniping and use during dogfights
6 ALPHA STRIKE

My weapons are often geared towards what side of the mech they are on. So often right mouse is my right hitting weapons, left, the left weapons. Allows me great control for firing around obstacles and such. Plus group 4 and 5 is often set to one lrm 20 or such so i can fire off a stream of missiles... i got in to this habit before MWLL had it set where you could set weapon groups to chainfire.

I like to know what weapon is firing when. Sometimes i can get overwhelmed, but normally i do fine.

I'll use 3- Primary (fast reload), Secondary (long range and/or high damage, slow reload), and everything else (NARCs, TAG, all that other stuff that belong in its own group).

I group my weapons by range and projectile type/speed so that I can use one same target lead for the whole group. 2-3 groups are usually enough, but some loadouts, for example Blood Asp D or Hellbringer B(I use MWLL variants for reference), require up to 5. I often keep some groups are in chainfire, either to reduce heat spikes or to provide myself with an option to shoot individual weapons from the group. I rarely group weapons by the side, they are mounted to, with the exceptions of configs like Adder Prime, Mad Dog A or Novacat A, where there are mostly weapons of same type, grouped on side or arm mounts.

I never thought of mapping left and right side weapons to different strokes. Might need to do that with urban maps in MWO. :)

It really depends on what sort of situation, I have been known to remap at the start of a map, or even on the fly if a weapon goes and i have sneak some cover for a second to re link my grouping.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is what a joystick is for. My Attack-3 has 5 buttons on the stick itself, 6 buttons around the base, and a throttle :)

In mechwarrior 4 I'd use all 6 groups like the following. My joystick buttons 1-3 would fire groups 1-3 but when I pressed my joystick shift button those would then become fire groups 4-6.

First 3 groups would be group fire for each of the weapon types as appropriate

Group 1 - laser or main direct fire weapons (example: 2 Large Lasers)
Group 2 - ballistic or secondary weapons (example: 4 medium lasers)
Group 3 - missile weapons or tertiary weapons (example: 2 LRM20)

Last 3 groups would be just half of the groups in case I need to manage heat or ammo or something. (if the MWLL style chain-fire per group were applicable in MW4 I would have done that instead)

Group 4 - from example: 1 large laser
Group 5 - from example: 2 medium lasers
Group 6 - from example: 1 LRM20

I usually fill out 5 or 6 groupings but only really use 3, based on range. With the advanced system we are expecting in this game, I suspect groupings will be separated by range and limb/torso.

As long as I can cycle groups and toggle group/chain/single fire without much difficulty, I'm ok. Still trying to figure out how I want to rig my Jump Jet controls, though...

Only ever needed 3. Long, Medium, Short range... or Energy, Ballistic, Missile. Depends on the Chassis. Cycle group fire and let recharge rates handle the rest.
