As mentioned a couple of posts above me, how about paying for an episodic player campaign (with proper plot, cutscenes, maps, etc)?

That way you've got a free multiplayer (plus paying for cosmetic stuff), but with opportunities to purchase the single player episodes for a reasonable fee. Perhaps a core single player campaign for about USD15-30, with episodic content priced at about USD5 each?

I apologise if I've offended anybody's sensibilities, but the battletech plot has always intrigued me, hence the suggestion.

Up to devs if they want to do, but I'd love it if this was implemented.

I think you're seriously misjudging the time and dev effort these take, there's a reason they cost $60 retail.

To make this worthwhile, they'd have to sell about 15,000 - 20,000 copies at $60/per, at anywhere from $5-30 per slice, you're looking at numbers that make little financial sense.

I would like (at some point) either have player created single player campaigns or at least something that lets people do portions of single player stuff, it's a huge part of MW history and it would be nice to get something in here that reflects a bit of that.

I am a clansman at heart, I think that there should be the ability to purchase clan decals and possible pilot bonuses though I don't know how those work yet. Its not totally unfeasible to have a trueborn warrior in the inner sphere, seeing as the wolfs dragoons were very active in warfare prior to the clan invasions. Maybe they could offer clan 'mechs but organize them into the clan Stars, with one Star fighting 2 or 3 lances. This might be down the road, and I would pay money for that Clan invasion experience. But in the immediate, more 'mech slots would be cool, or perhaps paying for more variants of a already owned 'mech.

Pay to unlock music tracks. Preview in the buy screen, but you have to pay to play them ingame.

Gotta have the dice hanging from the cockpit! First thing I think of when I think BT is the original board game cover.

Oh yeah, and a customized startup sequence! Nothing like an evocative voicecheck confirmation to get you pumped up for combat.

I would like to personalize the text of the major game menus, such as the main menu, mechlab, galaxy map, etc...

What would I pay for?

1. Paints and Decal Meshes
Normal wear and tear would wear down the paint so that eventually the decals and paint would be unrecognizable.
Damage from weapons fire and running into things removing your decals during battle would be pretty interesting. Communications down and relying on LOS on that mech, but wait, you can't make out the clan emblem because it's been scraped off from shrapnel? *chuckle* I know, I know, pipe dream, but hey, crazier things could happen!

2. Cockpit eye candy
As many others have stated, cockpit customizations and eye candy would be pretty ideal since you could limit it to the client and not have to communicate all of that to every player.

3. SP/Co-op Missions
This would be SWEET! But possibly unlikely...maybe they could start a Kickstarter to add this in later? :)

4. Customized Clan Emblem
Get a clan together, want to make your own battallion yadda yadda yadda, go through aforementioned approval process to have your emblem in game, and only members from your clan/etc can purchase.

5. In-game playlist control for <insert_social_music_application_here>.
Pandora, Zune, Spotify, iTunes...

6. Gated titles/Mech renames
Coupled with in-game experience and requirements, ability to purchase gated titles and mech renaming moderated by staff.
Create lore-specific titles that you can assign to your mechwarrior(s) (notice the plural option?!?) that players can choose from.
Allow players to name their mechs for a fee (moderated of course). I think these would be very interesting in helping build legend and lore around the game moving forward. Why not allow the player base to write their own history (similar to what happens in that emo mmo EVE).

-= EDIT =-
7. Derp, forgot additional mechwarriors/hanger bays!

I would pay for a Marlyn Monroe cash shop item that you can buy to pilot your battle mech. When you eject out of your battle mech she holds down her skirt to keep it from floating up. :D

Massive thread. Ugh.

1 Battlerecorder qua Halo: Reach but even better.
2 Mechs. I would totally feel okay buying access to chassis
3 C-bills. I'd much rather earn my merc fee, but it would be nice to know I can blow a few bucks for Op costs in a pinch.
4 Map editor and support for community content. Oh yes. If you host my in-game media assets, orginize them for me and let me easily share them with others, I will give you tacos money. Oh such money will I give!
;)

MechWarrior II Soundtrack?

I WOULD PAY $100 FOR THAT.
I also think the idea of having a raccoon in my Centurion's cockpit is epic. Whether it's a stuffed raccoon or a live one that's sleeping in front of my targeting computer. :) If i could have a custom decal, it would be of the clan wolf logo, but with a RACCOON. Also with the background having gray and black stripes.

You should just sell add space in game... subtle and not over the top, it's not why we play mechwarrior but why can't [canon BT arms manufacturer] be replaced by Smith and Wesson, if they are willing to pay for the 'ad' space? Why can't the City maps have billboards that contain adds for Coke/Pepsi? Why not make meshs for the random cars on the roads some little Ford/Toyota/ETC... concept car? Add the ability to (if the player is stupid enough to do this) select the item some how and open up further details or promo's that can be sent to their email and printed for coupons. While it would be a buff to the players by differing costs from them to someone else, it would also be pretty sweet to stomp my Mech over, smash a Red Lobster and later go there and get a cheap diner IRL.
