Ok

Please refrain laughing at me - this confession is as hard as it is.

Through the years defending Sky..errr Steiner interests in the Galaxy, using our beloved mech's to punch common sense in the other houses, i have never confessed this to anyone, but here it goes.

I don't like the Atlas.

Seriously, i think its ugly (and not in a cool way, its "its got a huge head" ugly).
I can't stand it.
Laugh as much as you want now.
I've SAID IT. IM FREE!
And im sure i'm not alone!!

Should have been around day 1. Was very much a torn issue... but every mech reveal has been. 3/4s like it, 1/4 does not. What happens when you redesign something to make it more modern.

I for one love all of FD's redesigns and taking 15 min line art from the TROs to a 2012 re-envision. Looks bad ***, functional and deadly.!

@CoffiNail -

I think he was saying it about the general design, not necessarily FD's artwork.

I think it's a very large profile target, which for me (if they implement LRMS/Arty correctly) will be a lot of fun for scouts.

Personally, I am a Star League guy, and almost every one of my least favorite 'mechs (other than the unseen, I like Harmony Gold's designs ;) ) come from that era. The only exception is the Highlander, but aside from that, I feel like a traitor to my own age. Point being, I feel your pain :(

I really like the look of the atlas... I'm just not that big of a fan of the mech's normal loadout.

The Atlas is my default favorite mech, but only insofar as I can customize the load out. It's pretty much an ox. Lumbering slow and it can take an incredible amount of punishment. I wouldn't really ever suggest piloting it unless you like to be the object of focused fired.

That being said, you raise a valid point. The Atlas is ugly as hell but I think that serves more for the psychological warfare. The huge, skull like head SHOULD send shivers up your spine if you ever encounter one. I think the main appeal of it to most people is the fact that it's a giant death's head, and of course a 100 tonner.

That's OK Leonardo, there's a nice Locust you can pilot. Looks nothing like those uh-gah-lee Atlases.
You can drag me kicking and screaming into an AS7-K...

Aww, it's ok. I'm sure there are plenty of Lightning Company COs who'd love to have you on board.

Besides, it's not like you said you didn't like the Zeus or something...

To be honest, I never liked the Atlas that much too. Hell I think it looks badass though, but I'm not an assault type of guy. I need atleast some speed in a mech in order to like it, but not so much that i get shredded with one blast. Kinda in the middle, like with mediums and heavies.

I'm also not really impressed by the AS7-D-K-S... Although it is not the Mech...cause i have at least 3 Minis for TT.
When i want a SW Era Assault Mech i feel more comfortable with the BNC-3S, STK-3F or HGN-733

o.O I am talking about the general design itself (ya'll know, it was Kerensky himself that had it designed like that)

I am not shamed of this.
A marauder II, now that is a beatiful mech - the ones i like! ... i ain't going for no stinkin' locust BA.

..
Just a couple notes:
1. Hey, I pay my taxes to the Lyran commonwealth, im loyal!!!! (although those are then used to fund your Lyran useless expenses, as it is known that you are a bunch of snow surfing lazy bums)
2. There is a davion in this thread - quick, hide your archons!

There are really few people who like it, except for Steiners, so you should not have problems with it.

I am not saing it is not a good mech, but it is not fun. ;)

Eh I know a lot of people who dig the Atlas and some who don't.

I don't value the opinion of capellans though.

A Marauder II is just a fail design. It lacks both:
- that certain speedy look of the Atlas streamlined hull that is known and feared by the enemies of our beautifull demesne for its gracefull and fluid motions even under most heavy ordnance fire
- and the Atlas sheer awesomness of versatility due to the fact that its well rounded design can do both, reckon scouting missions OR fast and devastating harrassment tactics of the enemy cumbersome and heavy forces.

In conclusion, he who would ever chose a Marauder II over an Atlas has NOT understood the true role of a scout 'mech. But well, I do hope that you will not learn the error of your way ... ehrm... the hard way.

Take care
Daniel

Edit: And Damocles, I salute you for your heroism, scouting in that tin can of a Zeus is realy only for the boldest of Pilots!

Schnapps, Jägermeister and Timbiqui Dark to be exact!

You don't need walk through walls cheats when you're driving an assault.

I am not a fan of piloting the Atlas myself however I feel very confident when I know my ECM Lance is being supported by 2 lances of Atlas's (1 walking in and 1 hot dropping) and a Fire Support Hauptmann Lance. Gotta say there is somthing very Iconic and Bada** about rounding a corner or haveing the smoke clear just to have a Death's Head staring you down (or in our case backing you up)!

There are lot of well built alternatives in your Steiner arsenal, but the Atlas is an ideal anchor for our usual battle doctrine.
The Zeus is a very good medium mech, for example, which I like.

It took me a while to warm up to the Atlas. Usually not my first pick to pilot, but I will if it calls for it. The silver lining of the Atlas to me is the various ways to figure weapon load outs.
