I am so pumped about MWO using CryEngine3

The engine is brilliantly structured.

I would be amazing of there where foot troops fighting it out on the ground while we battle in our mechs. it would add such a sence of immersion to see small arms fire and the occasional rpg plinking uselessly off our mechs. I can imagine rounding the corner to see an atlas and the red glow from its eyes filling my cockpit.

Well its just a matter or setting the settings acordingly to your machines capabilities. Its amazing the diference a bit less lighting or particle effects makes when trying go squeeze more frames per second from an older graphic card.

What impresses me the most is the texture detail of the worlds, i mean, rocks look like real rocks. LIke the ones we can se in the screenshot of the latest Game Developer about mech warfare.
And the speed we can see when adding new stuff to the world is amazing, that makes me believe the game may look stunning on launch day, even when the developing process wasnt lenghty.

And the engine looks optimized to first person shooters wich means it can handle hundreds of projectiles flying simultaneously and with impressive damage models and realistic travel paths.

I cant wait to see tose missile volleys and ppc basts blasting the backside of a big, fat Atlas ! :P

Nah, I think the large coastal city was, or the cinematic stuff at the end. MWO looks great, though some of those vista shots makes me wish MWO maps were that colossal, would make company tactics very important...least in objective games, kill point games would probably benefit from small maps, but I do hope they have more than that.

I completely agree !
In World of Tanks (not trying to compare both games) the most sucessful maps are the ones that have multiple ways to aproach the objectives, making the game more fluid because you have to play the guessing and scouting game to counter the enemy.
Maps with few viable routs of attack end up in slugfest or camping matches, boring and frustrating at such degree they sometimes end in a draw by time limit.
A map that offers tactical diversity forces people to think on strategy and teamplay, wich would make MWO...

Fair enough but its the gameplay (map design) that determines this not how pretty they look.

Graphics engine isn't as important as the artists.

What little i've seen so far kicks ***, but it ain't because of the engine.
