Every brawler mech should have a tag. When you go toe to toe with that atlas, troll him out into the open and fire up that tag.
If you have anyone on your team with half a brain cell he'll fire his LRM's at that atlas.

The tag makes the LRM's group tighter, so more hit him, and hit him in a tighter group. Minimizing spread, maximizing damage.

Tag also lets you direct fire your LRM's on any target from 180 out to tag's max range.

is narc still unusable with that short 8 second timer? My LRMs need more time to fly to the target ;)

Yep, Narc still sucks as of last night.
I tossed a narc launcher on my commando.... even prewarning the LRM boats what I was getting ready to narc, none of them actually took advantage of it.

Caveat: I was pugging, Could have use in organized play, but even though the zerglings whine for target locks at the beginning of a match, it is rare they actually take advantage of it when you provide it.

Is TAG useful for LRM only or for SRM as well?

I've just finished detection for TAG/NARC XP and C-Bill gain.

If you are TAGing or NARCing a hostile and they take damage from one of your teammates you will receive 25xp and cbills.

This is per target mech. So you can receive up to 8 in a 8v8.

C-bill and XP gain numbers subject to change.

If two or more are TAGing/NARCing same target all will receive reward.

How can you tell if the TAG is on/painting (other than when I've visually seen the laser light)? I usually keep my LRM at the back of the group and fire into the fray but I've never seen any indication on my HUD that someone is being TAGged... am I missing the icon/light/pop-up/whatever??

NO thanks, but if they made it a toggle on/off it would save on having to make macros just to keep the thing turned on.

i mean its pretty much useless right now. much less a counter for ECM. its very hard to keep a light mech with ECM targeted with TAG. on top of that most TAG carriers are light mechs. 2 light mechs + netcode issues, = 0 TAG/ECM counter

This is good but not really enough.

it needs to take into account how long you tag for and give the chance of gaining the bonus more than once per enemy mech.

The bonuses for these types of assists are really quite small if you aren't going to take into account more than one instance of each tag or narcing.

a thought came to me, can having 2 tags on one mech make it faster to lock on to a target and make the missiles more accurate?

nope.

but: every mech with more than 2 energy slots should have a tag. i dont get why all of the PUGs i deal with are without tag, especially those equipping LRMs. its FREE XP + CB, weighs 1t only. WTF?

edit: how can you have missed the little target reticle above your enemies red target box? thats the indication.

IF you are 180m or more away from an ECM mech (Atlas D-DC) and hold a TAG lock on it your LRM boats and get a lock on it and destroy it.

Note TAG has a 750m range so having 1 on your own LRM boat is a good thing. :P

NO but 2 tags help when they are opposite sides of the mech for LOS issues and mech movement.

I don't know why everyone's ignored you. You can tell someone is being Tagged because a little crosshair-in-a-box symbol appears next to their target triangle.

they haven't put in ammo choices for the LBX, so they sure aren't likely to put in those NARC alternatives anytime soon. probably be way to complicated - like having tanks and VTOLs and those lovely little Clan battlesuits bouncing all over the place planting explosives on enemy mechs. fun, but way to much to put into this game.

But the could i bet

If i Tag an enemy mech that has not yet been spotted/locked on by my team (empty triangle) do i have to lock it "R" or is it sufficent to paint it with the TAG to make it visible to other teammates?
