I seem to gravitate to whichever class/role causes me the most pain. I'm usually a Cleric, so either Command or Scout here *shrug*

I'm also an alt-aholic, so I hope this whole concept of chassis-loyalty doesn't ruin it for me by making me feel like I can't try everything effectively.

I plan on taking a hybrid approach to a Attacker and Commander, but really i will adapt to what ever my lance and merc company need me to be.

My role will probably always be to harry and distract as well as recon. A peripheral role will also probably be the first mech to take fire in every engagement... ;)

Given the choices, even though I do agree with Aegis' viewpoint, I'm leaning towards support/defense. Hang out with the Cats and lay down the hurt while the Atlases and Hunchies move up, and punch anyone who gets too close to my missile boats in the face.

Definantly would love to be in a command position.

I guess it's gonna depend on how well the roles work.

If no one listens to the commander then I'll probably just play offense.

I hope the roles really work as well as they are suppose to.

Having them is really cool, and i'm ok with taking orders and fufilling a specific role in game.

But I would, preferably, be in command of a lance or two.

Experience in MW4 showed that the roles for team based tactics broke down like this;

Scout or scout/harassment
Brawler
Sniper
Fire Support

The commander would take one of these roles and command in addition to his combat function.

I expect the roles in MWO will be identical, as the technology available to us is identical. That is, I expect the roles will mirror what was developed in MW4, regardless of what official roles are designated, as combat reality trumps all.

Brawler.i like fast heavies. they are fast enough to be manueverable, dangerous enough because of the weapons they can carry and enough armor to give them staying power. im hoping for a grand dragon, thunderbolt, or marauder

I'm thinking of using the skills & modules to create a jack-of-all-trades character, but with multiple mechs configured for different roles. That way I can be whatever my team need me to be.

Primary: Brawler
Secondary: Support

I get bored easily, so some days I'd want to mix it up in something like a Hunchback or a Centurion [from what we've seen thus far] and other days I'd be up for supporting or blunting an advance in a Catapult. Having anything more than that pilot wise would be too taxing on my available time, I suspect.

Since we're not getting a MadCat/Timberwolf anytime soon, I've decided to pilot a Catapult as it's the closest-looking mech. That said, Catapults are known as long-ranged "Support" mechs, so I voted for Support.

How ironic since in most MMORPGs (like fantasy-based ones), I usually role a Medic/Priest or any type of support class lol....

From a tactical standpoint, I won't pigeon-hole myself into a defined "role". I'm like water, my roles in a game ebbs and flows with the dynamics of the battlefield.

This.

I'm looking forward to playing as a scout, and supporting teammates once the need for scouting during the match is gone.

Glad to see a like mind.

I've seen far too many people say "I'm a sniper!" and the moment they are asked to do recon they say "I can't do that..... I'm a sniper! I can only snipe." As with employers and their employees, if you can (and do) only 1 thing (even if well), you'll be replaced by someone who can do that (and other things) even if not as well.

Specializing is fine, but so many pilots are wrapped up in the preconceived notion of what a role is, they lock themselves into a set way of playing that does not adjust to the events on the battlefield.

Yeah, exactly. I myself, when playing on line FPS or whatever, will change my role to best suit the tactical situation. I may not be the best an any one role, but I'm good enough to cover the basics of all the roles. Plus, when you are a jack-of-all trades sorta player, you can let those other skills roll into what you are play as at the moment. If you are a fast medium, possibly equipped with Artemis designator, you could "Scout" even though are are actually playing in a Skirmisher role.

Primary: Comander

Secondary: Support/Offense/Scout

I like seeing the situation overall and building tactics for the troops, also I dont consider myself superior or liking ordering to people, but I like to have a sqadron (lance) under my lead, and also fight along their side.

If not that, I like working like a lone wolf, behind enemy lines silently assassinate enemies one by one.
I either like being part of a working team or do things alone without dragging my mates into my own danger.

Thanks for this great poll!

Biggest thing Im likely to pilot would be an Awesome. I more than not will be in smaller 40-65 ton mechs doing forward scouting/ambushes maybe doing command of a scout lance. I picked scouting and assault.
