Anyone know if the Devs paln on including the reflective/reactive armor types that were in MW4 in addition to your standard FF?

Not really advocating for or against the inclusion, just curious what others have heard.

These armor will probably NOT be in the game as it is set in 3049.

Laser Reflective armor did not start research and development until 3055 (Federated Commonwealth) and 3059 (Clan Jade Falcon), and did not see prototype designs and production until 3058 (FedCom) and 3061 (CJF).

Reactive Armor started research and development in 3058 (Draconis Combine) and 3061 (Clan Ghost Bear) and didn't see prototype and production until 3063 (Draconis Combine) and 3065 (Clan Ghost Bear)

I'm pretty sure they are not going to be included considering FF is fairly new at this point.

Oops! I goofed on the dates and information for reactive armor! I was looking at stealth armor for it's R&D/prototype dates:

It should be: R&D start 3058 (Draconis Combine) and 3061 (Clan Ghost Bear) and Prototype/Production: 3063 (Draconis Combine) and 3065 (Clan Ghost Bear)

On an similar note, Hardened Armor had a R&D start date of 3045 (Federated Commonwealth) and 3057 (Clan Ghost Bear) with Prototype and production dates of 3047 (FedCom) and 3061 (Clan Ghost Bear). However it was very rarely used then, and doesn't see much use until the Jihad Era forward so I doubt we will see that one either. :(

Editing my previous post to correct it. Always happy to help!

reactive armor already exists and isn't something so difficult that it'll take until 3058 to develop. the canon story is flawed and full of illogical nonsense and the devs know this. it's gonna be a very selective process on what they want to keep canon so stop citing the canon story and timeline, it has no bearing on the discussion of technology.

the fact is, reactive compatible armor is the basic armor you'll be using. look on the atlas screenshots and concepts. that grey square plate on its leg is a piece of reactive armor.

I dont see different types at beta or even launch, but I would definitely like to have them later.

@ cinco while reactive armor exists today, this game isn't even close to being set in our millenia. don't forget about the 1 & 2 Succession wars that saw the almost uninhibited use of collateral damage to industry and research. the reactive armor on the Atlas is called standard armor. it melts or explodes or gets pockmarked (depending on what hits it). Reactive armor actually falls off in sheets as it is hit with non energy based weapons (AC, missles) and it wasn't developed til well after the timeline we start in. FF armor was lost tech and only a select handful of 'Mechs for this time have it. Think of standard armor being a simple IOTV without the additional armor plating that infantry have. Now FF armor is like the IOTV with SAPI plate inserts. google it if you don't understand all those military terms.
And in case you havent noticed they have faithfully stuck to the canon going so far as to work with the guy that did all the timeline stuff for BT. so the game will be exceptionally canonical ( i think thats the word i want) .

TL:DR --> Reactive is a long way off in BT. dont like it then move on b\c this will stick to canon.

And just to add a bit to Joe's comment, in at least a few posts here the dev's have commented on certain things not being available at launch because they weren't appropriate to the timeline. That would suggest that they are in fact taking a stance on keeping much of the canon as it is. I would suspect any changes made to canon are going to be made out of necessity to be practical more then anything else.

Yeah, it looks a bit like an ERA brick, agreed. But it's probably just artistic flair and nothing more. The concept artist (FD) has stated that he likes to borrow real world military syles.

As for lore accuracy, Randall Bills is working with the dev team to ensure the game stays lore accurate. Some things will certainly be changed for better gameplay, but I doubt this is one of them.
