A closed beta testers decision to finally go Legendary Founders.

Between posting arguments, discussing balance, advocating various changes and joining my fellow beta players in calling attention to bad and good moves. It's been a long road from June to today. And it's been a HELL of a ride let me tell you.
While you'll not see a founders tag next to my name [yet, funds are being transfered lol] currently, I've made the decision with the up comming open beta to make the jump into the $120 expendature land. And I wanted to let the community at large understand why I've made the decision to do so. From the "Free Players" perspective.
Current economic balance in Mechwarrior: Online Closed Beta reflects what you, the free players about to make it into open beta, are going to see most likely. If they do not offer you a mech to start out with, you'll be starting out in a Trial mech. 1 of 4 you can choose from, it'll be a basic variant of the mech you could buy. without the "Repair" costs, since it's basically a "here's a mech go have fun." And it's not horrible. I will warn you however, it WILL be frustrating! It WILL be painful, and you'll have some serious heat issues if it stays as it is.
However, owning your first mech, getting to do what YOU want to do with it... in 3 or so hours of play, it'll feel amazing, like a breath of fresh air. to finally use the mechlab, to finally get to tinker, and tailor the mech to what you want. It'll be wonderful, and I'm looking forward to seeing what you, the populace, has to say about the game.
That being said, as a free player, I don't like grinding for stuff... I just, don't... I have soo many things I want to do in MWO. so many plans, but right now, I'm limited by ingame funds. Not to mention, I currently have 1 mech in my entire Mech Bay, and the trials just aren't doing it for me. So, now that I have the money, I've decided to toss my hat into the "gold" ring. to get that golden emblem next to my name, and enjoy the perks that brings. [Also for those that haven't, you should TOTALLY pick up the new PC gamer]
PGI's had a bit of a rocky start, I see them as a rather new devgroup, with just enough experience to finally tackle their first huge game, and what more iconic a game than Mechwarrior. And though their growing pains, I've seen the potential this company can have. I see my 120 dollars as an investment into this [with the bonus of getting some awesome toys ingame too] So, this is my reason, my decision, my faith in this company not to completely blow one of the most beloved franchises in the history of PC gaming. And I hope... that a few of you, will take the chance and jump into founders before the 14th too.

sounds logical.
so what was that ONE mech that took you 1.5 - 2 weeks to grind out?

While this is how most F2P games are, it's generally not a good sign when it's pointed out like this.

you have one post.. yet you use the word "upgraded"...
forgive my skeptisism, but thats just funny to me.
His profile says he's been a member since 01 August 2012. What does one post have to do with anything and how is that funny? Funny that he likes to play rather than post? (Making an assumption on the "he" part. Sorry if I'm wrong.)

Wow.
Yeah. Sorry but NOTHING is free. Yes, the Devs are making this, like many games, so that ANYONE who has a computer that can handle it, can play it, and never have to spend a penny.
On the other hand, they are no tmaking funds for this game out of fairie farts and wishes, so what, it is horrible to think that is you want the good stuff... OMG! You might have to pony up?!?!?!?
And btw, the good stuff, is not even a particular gameplay advantage, which is minor at best. It's for variety and freedom.
The reason so many games fail, has less to do with the games, and more to do with this entitled, selfish and whiney generation that feels that everything should be given them on a silver platter, the same people who think that it's cool to pirate music and movies, "cuz no one gets hurt, and real artists don't do it for money".
Except that to keep doing it, those artists DO need to be able to afford paint, or instruments and studio time, and likewise, so PGI has massive upkeep, paying wages, for hardware, servers, licensing, advertising, etc.
So hey, play for free. It's all good, and the invite is there. But stop complaining that they aren't rolling out the valet and caviar for you. And seriously, in 3 days of hard core playing (about a week of normal) I could buy a Catapult K-2, and the next day I was able to start modifying it.
In a game where most people never can afford to own their own mech, that doesn't seem like much of a grind. And if you want it faster and easier, help support the bloody game.

What I will say further however is that, the grind isn't so bad that it makes me want to rip my eyes out with a rusty spoon unlike some games.
MWO's grind is... manageable, you can see your progress, and you can, in around 3 hours of play, afford a decent medium mech. However, the value of Legendary Founders... to give me one mech in each weightclass [even if only the "primary" variants is it may be.] Gives a decent advantage in the form of simply having more mechs to choose from faster. [which is quite obvious] Also that the founders boost, ontop of the boost from premium time, will make the game MUCH more manageable for someone like myself who may not, in the future, really have the time to put into the game.
MechWarrior is one of my passions, has been since the early 90's... and would have been earlier in the form of Classic Battletech had I known about it.
To paraphrase the great Tony Stark: "So what I'm saying, if I'm saying ANYTHING... is Legendary Founders, is totally worth the money."

Yes, they truly need our love, care, and support especially since we are approaching open beta. So please show your love for the game by having a Founder's tag next to your name.

well, if you don't want them to finish the game, and have no hope that they'll do a good job at it, then yes, don't bother spending the money on the game and go play something else, if you plan on playing this game whether they screw everything up or not, and have the money to spend of course, then ignore this guy and support the franchise we all know and love ^.^ (sure they've still got work to do, if they didn't we wouldn't still be in beta
