When you look at each mech's loadouts and equipment, you can see how they can be classified into Offensive, Defensive, and Support roles.

This is how I label them:
Light
Fire Moth (Dasher) -Offense
Mist Lynx (Koshi) -Defense
Kit Fox (Uller) -Offense
Adder (Puma) -Support

Medium
Viper (Dragonfly) -Defense
Ice Ferret (Fenris) -Defense
Nova (Black Hawk) -Offense
Stormcrow (Ryoken) - Support

Heavy
Mad Dog (Vulture) - Support
Hellbringer (Loki) -Defense
Summoner (Thor)- Support
Timber Wolf (Mad Cat) -Offense

Assault
Gargoyle (Man O' War) - Defense
Warhawk (Masakari) - Support
Executioner (Gladiator) - Offense
Dire Wolf (Daishi) -Offense

Its awkward because there's an IS 55-tonner named the Gladiator that was almost extinct that gets upgraded around the 3050's. So there's two Gladiators running around.

This thread is misleading, it's about understanding the mechs, but all I see are names.

The Helbie literally has the armor level of a Jenner, so I don't think it would fit into the defense category very well (it even says in the description that it's "not particularly suited to defensive engagements"). I'd consider it more of an offensive unit due to its speed and relatively high firepower for its weight. Then again, it might also be considerable as support due to it not being very good at fighting 1 on 1 (terribad armor) and its various electronics plus AMS.

I hope I get taken as a Clan Wolf Bondsman... Just so I may claim all the isorla that the innerspher has to offer, what with it having all these inferior freebirth mech pilots... We will show these other surat clans just how to reclaim Terra from those deceitful stravag... these sphereoid warriors have no spine, no honor, and no skill... We shall make short work of them...

Ebon Jaguar - Cauldron Born (introduced 3049)

It was not seen in 3050 and only 2 examples were seen at the battle of Luthien and then not seen for some time afterwards in the I.S

They were not used much during the invasion because they were mostly second line mechs.

MW2 bitching betty is stuck in my head with those names, good list here, I'll make sure to send it to my friend who keeps asking about the Vulture so he knows that just because it isn't in the clan pack that it doesn't mean it wont be in the game haha.

those are all omni's, not second line. they just were not as common as the main 16 omni's due to being either newer (often intended to replace one of the main 16) or built by a clan that wasn't part of the invasion and thus the invader touman's didn't have many.

personally i'd love to have a Shadow Cat in MWO.. fast low end medium with a gauss rifle? would be a fun sniper.

I love the idea of the Gargoyle...80T mech going 93 kph after speed tweak with clan weapons. As long as it does not get the Victor's cursed chassis quirks...

The Victor? It deserved those nerfs. Anyway i hope the Gargoyle would enjoy some better mobility compared to the other assaults.
