Eh... the Highlander was designed as a powerful static installation and urban zone defender, with jump jets to give it superior maneuverability within its weight class and give it an edge in urban fighting. The Atlas is designed as a super-heavy static installation attacker designed to engage targets at any range while tanking as much as possible, and devastate oponents once it closes in. The Mauler is an assault-weight fire support 'mech, which sacrifices a lot of armor and close-range effectiveness in order to engage targets as far out as possible, and the Cyclops is an assault-class command vehicle designed for mobility and with heavy close-range firepower for defense against lighter "headhunter" 'mechs. If you just look at weapon load-outs, there are similarities between all four, but each brings something different to the table and has a different intended role.
(And, of course, it's kinda hard not to have some similarities to an Atlas unless you go energy-weapons-only, since the Atlas carries one of just about everything!)

You can say that, but while your on feeling safe in your slow underarmed mech i will strip the Myomer fibes off your frame with long range fire.
Unless the Mauler's mechwarrior is stupid enough to get in close, or his commander dumb enough to put him in a bad situation, none of the other two would stand a chance.
prefering the highlander is like bragging the power of your 10gauge shotgun while the other guy with the "less powerful" 5.56 takes aim at 500 yards. Yea you can hit harder... if you ever get to hit.
(that being said, a truly talented mechwarrior can use any of the three to kill the other two, pilot skill is a huge factor to the mech's effectiveness.)

Jumping assault 'mech? I'm game!
Close second is the Cyclops, because I'd choose it over any other assault if I needed to command a lance.

And the Mauler? Really?
No thanks, I'll take a real command mech over them both, give me the Cyclops.

I won't make a vote, because I don't want to anger either side and besides, I won't drive any of them.
