Some people prefer to fight in a plain, a dead forest or a hill, facing face to face with their enemies, others prefer to defend a position, or surround the opponent between the buildings, or just the old "hit and run" Which do you prefer and why? urban battle or an open battlefield?

Both. A mix of things is best. Tactics in each setting should change or your opponent will know what you are going to do each time. Best to keep them guessing.

Personally, I prefer terrain that allows me to get in as close to the enemy's rear armor as possible without being spotted - so, I generally like either urban environments, or very hilly/wooded areas most.

That's true but in some of these types of battle you are better or you prefer, right?

Plenty of terrain if I'm defending, nothing for them to hide behind if I'm attacking. B)

I think the mech You CHOOSE to fight, depends on how you like it, to strike with force I use an atlas or an AWESOME, but not use them to round or hit and run, you know?

I'm keen on city fights. Some of my best fights ever from MW4 were in the city, but I also haven't used a joystick since MW3. Since I'll have a joystick for this game, I will probably have better maneuvering, aiming and reaction times than I did with a keyboard so I'll have to re-develop my tactics all over again. I'll still want urban terrain though so my Jenner can wreak havoc.

I prefer an open battle field where it all comes down to fire power and your ability to use it.

Lets have it all! Woods, plains and cities, oh my. I would add airless moons, poisonous atmospheres, underwater habitats, endless deserts, etc.
Heck, even give us ponies. (note I am expressing neither love nor not love of ponies.)

this is a tough one, both are integral to the Battletech storyline, but I feel that the engine will probably handle open environments better, and mechs have always been a little ungainly in urban areas unless the roads and streets are exaggerated, so I give a cautious nod to the open field of battle. But I will use urban cover if it is available.

Probably open battles. I like the beauty of nature, and I also like the beauty of nature absolutely annihilated with craters everywhere.

The maps available before launching a mission would be the determining factor of what equipment I bring to the field. I can go with either urban or open landscapes, or any other setting that would require a certain set of tactics. Some units are just better in some situations than others.

Low-gravity worlds are fun too.

You do not like the idea of destroying buildings and causing explosions in the city?
