I would prefer urban combat, mainly because i am a major fan of the lbx autocannons and large batteries of medium lazers, and those are not very effective at longer range.

Why is there no poll?

I like to know statistics.

It doesn't matter much to me.
I like close-combat but that doesn't mean I like urban battle more.
Open terrain makes it easier to close (sometimes)

A mix but I'd rather it lean more on the terrain side.

Urban battle= my mech jumping from a nearby building and stomping another mech to death. Win. Both urban environments and open battlefields with terrain changes. Heck, with that moment when the Atlas loomed 20 feet away was ultra cool. (Sorry, geeked out a bit) It was shocking to see another mech could still sneak up on another within an urban environment. Can you picture a blizzard covering the battlefield, and for a second it clears and the last sight that your Stinger has is the gaping barrels of 3 AC/20 carried by the Hunchbacks of the opposite team.
Stinger: Enemy Contact! Enemy con...pzzzttt!
Far away explosion.

Yes,TH I'm talking about, you can imagine it at night and in rain?

Depends if I feel like plucking with Gauss or annoying someone with some AC-2s, or raining led with an LRM based Chassis, or if I want to put a hole through your CT with an AC20, or melt away your limbs with a cluster of med lasers.

AC-10s are really good for close in, not as heavy as the 20, more ammo, longe range.

I love using swarms of SRMS as well, they really mess up your day.

Depends on the mission, the mood and the "hey lets see how this load out handles".

I love fighting on an open field, with sparse trees. As in, around 25% trees or less. I find it interesting to see how my foes use the terrain, and to see how I can use it myself. I also enjoy rolling hills, because you never know when that lance of Lyran scouts will be just one hill over! =D

i prefer to fight in all terrain and adapt, i cant say i like urban more then hill terrain but i will notice that my performance is better on hills
but i will try to be equally if not better in urban, so trying to be better at urban can be more fun then fighting on hills.

I prefer terrains with lots of environmental "hazards" (buildings, hills, lakes, bridges, tunnels, valleys, etc.) As long as it's not a flat plain (mainly because it makes me think of Assault 'Mechs dominating the maps), I'll be okay with it.

The videos released so far show very good grounds for battle, varied environments, I want to explore. but I have not seen anything urban
I hope that soon the dev's show us a video of the gamplay where we see an urban combat

Personally, I can fight in both. I like fighting at a distance, which is harder in a city, but at the same time, it's fairly easy to lie in waiting near a main thoroughfare and then snipe someone as soon as they cross the street. It just so happens that the specific tactics I have to use are somewhat different.

Of course, one thing I like about urban environments is you can't just waltz a Highlander down the street without risking having a Grasshopper jump over a building and squish you. It's probably the most equalizing environment when it comes to pilot skill, requiring accuracy, environmental awareness, utilization of tactical terrain, and effective movements. It's also probably the best environment for team-based tactics, since there are so many ways to use a city to your advantage.

Out on an open field, however, accuracy plays a bigger role (sometimes even more so than weight class) and there's only so much to hide behind. Even in rugged environment, it's rather difficult to dart behind a hillside to not get hit if you're within a weight class of your opponent. As a result, it's more a matter of just walking in unpredictable (and hopefully effective) directions while trying to hit your target. To be fair, in this environment, it's easier to control the range at which you engage your opponent, but the flatter the terrain, the more likely the match will boil down to either A: Whoever has the most armor and firepower, or B: Who can shred their opponent at long range first. (I'm partial to B, myself.)

Urban for the mix of weapon types. Open combat devolves into long range weapons exclusively, which shallows gameplay by removing factors.
