I like to know statistics.
It doesn't matter much to me.
I like close-combat but that doesn't mean I like urban battle more.
Open terrain makes it easier to close (sometimes)

AC-10s are really good for close in, not as heavy as the 20, more ammo, longe range.
I love using swarms of SRMS as well, they really mess up your day.
Depends on the mission, the mood and the "hey lets see how this load out handles".

Of course, one thing I like about urban environments is you can't just waltz a Highlander down the street without risking having a Grasshopper jump over a building and squish you. It's probably the most equalizing environment when it comes to pilot skill, requiring accuracy, environmental awareness, utilization of tactical terrain, and effective movements. It's also probably the best environment for team-based tactics, since there are so many ways to use a city to your advantage.
Out on an open field, however, accuracy plays a bigger role (sometimes even more so than weight class) and there's only so much to hide behind. Even in rugged environment, it's rather difficult to dart behind a hillside to not get hit if you're within a weight class of your opponent. As a result, it's more a matter of just walking in unpredictable (and hopefully effective) directions while trying to hit your target. To be fair, in this environment, it's easier to control the range at which you engage your opponent, but the flatter the terrain, the more likely the match will boil down to either A: Whoever has the most armor and firepower, or B: Who can shred their opponent at long range first. (I'm partial to B, myself.)
