I am curious, will their be a map with territory for the factions to gain control of or is just instance based arena combat?

It would be awesome if there were some Realm (faction) vs Realm (faction) mechanic attached to this game, would be very ossum.

I am fervently hoping not just match based solaris type matches, some hints or tidbits make me think there will be more, a broader scope..at least after launch..im hoping so because just match after match gladiator style will become boring to me before too long

There will be a map and at least some of it will be free for players to influence who owns it from what i have read.

I noticed that you edited your post, I'm certain it was to change "awesome" to "ossum" for disambiguation: we wouldn't want to be confused and start thinking that you were using a battlemech as an epithet.

I think it is sorta a mixture of both... the matches are "instanced PVP" but the results change the world.

This isn't going to be an MMORPG, guys. It's a 12v12 arena game, as far as any of the info the devs has given us goes. More Counterstrike, less WoW. More World of Tanks, less EvE. I think the territory control stuff they're talking about is going to be more like:

-Draconis Combine is attacking fringe worlds of the Lyran commonwealth.
For the next X days, all matches between draconis combine and Lyran commonwealth contribute their victories/losses. At the end of the period, the side with more wins takes control of planets.

Hold out for them adding new game modes with various numbers of peeps after launch, but I think it's silly to expect them to turn their 12v12 game into the next planetside.

I think what the OP is asking is:

Is the game is going to throw different factions together in a mismash of a team, then send it against another team, OR is it going to make a selection of house players, bolster with lone wolves/mercs, and send it against another factions bolstered team?

I hope it is the second. Random deathmatches are fine, if they don't impact the territory of the various houses.

It’s called Community Warfare, try this link http://mwomercs.com/...munity-warfare/ it tells you a bit about it.

We are really lacking in Info on the topic.

The things they have said so far is that the bulk of combat (if not all) will be instanced combat. but the outcome of that combat will in some way effect the ownership of the planet the fight was on.

How they connect though has not even been hinted at beyond the idea of contracts.

But again the contracts concept has only been referenced not expanded on.

So we don't really know how interactive the RvR side of the game will be.

We do know we will only have an impact on non-core worlds. but which world is core will shift at the whims of the devs as far as I know.

What I think we will see is contracts popping up along the boarders of each of the successor states, and subtle movement of boarders. But nothing major.

How we will gain access to those contracts though is anybodies guess.

I am assuming there will be a Unit/Faction based ladder and players will compete as, seems like, Merc Units contracted to the various Houses. That players will join a Merc Unit of their choice and those units will probably come from the lore and also player created as needed.

I am assuming this because this is what players have done on their own in MW2-MW4 to add cohesion to online multiplayer gaming as well as a code of honor/conduct. Many featured planetary conquest/ownership. So hey, if players can add that kind of online world to a simple multiplayer MechWarrior game I am sure the MWO Devs can do the same or better. If they don't I am sure the players will, but it would be better if the MWO Dev's controlled the league ladders and sector conquest tracking because they can include it in the game interface in an easy to grasp way. They would also get and keep more MWO players.

I'd hope for RvR to some extent, but the way everything sounds (and the way forum support goes) it sounds more like simply a train ride through canon, mostly ignorable for anyone not interested - IE, deterministic with no impact on the game. Likely going to switch to Merc when release comes since the game will be much more open ended and interesting.

And here I thought this was the thread discussing DAoC, with that title...

*points up* They pretty well covered it. Though I think that they'll balance it a BIT more than the way WoT handles it. 'Wut? You wanna take over the world? Y OK THEN!' They've established that there are 'secured worlds' for each Great House that will never change hands (i.e. Tharkad, New Avalon, etc...), and it's the fringes and spaces between that we fight in, on, and over.

From the info given by the devs, it seems to me that 12v12 will be played out as a struggle for a planet (or part of a struggle, anyway). The wonderful thing about tje BT/MW universe isd that the combat generally has a reason. I will be very disappointed if the game features only arena type matches. The hope of missions which have an effect on the hold of a planet(s) is one thing that keeps me interesed.
