How would you guys feel about being a player for the Clans and what kind
of Clan would you play as if it happened?(Me personally, I would be a Jade Falcon ;) .)

Besides, since the game will be in 3050 next year it will be the
Clan Invasion Era.

Neither Clan. I wouldn't betray my friends for prettier toys. Besides, Clan Invasion era is a perfect time to be a Capellan. ^_^

If I can earn some clan tech to use I'll gladly utilize it but I don't like having advantages I didn't earn... clan mechs are just huge unearned advantages :P

Something just occured to me. What if they make it so that you can join a clan but that won't happen till AFTER the invasion has been beaten back and the battle of Tukayyid is done? Until that point all players are IS of some kind (merc or house)

I do not see it, makes the game PvE, and for Clan AI to be superior you would need some amazing coders, which takes resources away from other spots

I'd consider Smoke Jaguar. The current ilKhan is from Smoke Jag.

Helmer is a Clan Jade Falcon bloodname, so I am tempted to go that route.

We will see. Hoping to, as a mercenary, hookup with a good group of gamers, then I'll see where it takes me.

Cheers.

I kinda believe that coding Clan-style fighting in pre-Tukayyid would be easier than suspected. Clanners are always on the attack and strictly adhere to Zellbrigen during that era. Most invading Clans (minus Wolf) tended to "stand-and-deliver" for the most part.

I personally would think that having the Clans start as PvE would be a good move while the IS gains some salvage and brings some of their new tech online to deal with the threat (and deal with the initial imbalance of vastly superior equipment being given to players of one faction).

On a side note, authentic bidding for Clan units to assault a planet could be interesting.

I had this idea for Clan:

Once the Invasion happens, each player gets the option to begin "Clan Mode". You are allowed to pick a single name: Bob, Jim, Mark, etc. Then you pick a Clan. You start off with a single 'Mech, and start playing. Players can switch back to "IS mode", and have access to everything they earned in that mode. It's treated as two separate accounts, despite being linked by a button on the UI. Think of Navy Field, and how you switch harbors between the countries.

No CB: only Honor Points. Honor points can be used to order new Omnis and create new variants. You start off with a certain amount of Honor points, but there is a number of Honor points that you are not allowed to go under via ordering new material. More on this later. Honor points cannot be bought with real-world cash. Subscriptions for greater earnings do not apply to Clan Mode, but you can purchase a "Champion Trainer" for real-world cash which will increase your Honor Points earnings and the rate in which you earn PXP in Clan Mode.

Ideally, I'd like to see Honor Points given for dispatching an enemy without any help, or dispatching a target in a weight CLASS heavier than the 'Mech you are in. Conversely, I'd like to see Honor Points deducted for focusing fire, or dispatching a target in a lighter weight class. Deductions would be less than grants, so if you dispatch a heavier unit, but use focused fire, you earn a small amount of Honor Points. But if you take out a lighter 'Mech with focused fire, you can expect Honor Points to be a net negative.

Realistically, this wouldn't work. It'd simply be too difficult to implement without bugs or being subject to griefing. An acceptable alternative:

Clan Mechwarriors are the best of the best, piloting the hottest machines the human sphere has ever seen. They're expected to perform well. Honor is therefore granted on a damage delivered to damage received ratio, and you're expected to deliver quite a bit more damage than you receive to break even that match. Honor points are given for going above this ratio, and honor points are deducted for going below this ratio. Easy as pie.

The good news is that non-honor related expenses, such as ammo, repairs, or travel(or whatever other expenses might exist in IS mode) are free.

Now if at any point your honor points drop below the minimum amount mentioned earlier, you enter 'solahma' mode. Your 'Mechs are frozen, and you must pick an older IS design to fight in, to represent one of the 'Mechs brought over on the Exodus and stored in caches for solahma warriors. Example: A Grasshopper would be fine, but a Mauler, being new IS tech, would not. Stock variant of whatever 'Mech you choose only, no modifications allowed (although solahma units sometimes used old 'Mechs with their weapons replaced with Clan equivalents. As these units still used standard structure and SHS, this wasn't as effective as it sounds). The honor ratio is softened to a break-even of 1:1 damage taken to damage received. Do better, and you earn easy honor. Do worse, and you remain solahma. Earn your Honor back up, and your old 'Mechs are returned to you (but you don't keep the IS 'Mech).

Conversely, if your honor goes over a very high number at ANY time, you earn a random, clan-specific Bloodname. If your honor goes below this mark, you retain the Bloodname. Now you are marked as a resourceful and skilled warrior.

Here's my rationale: Playing as the Clans shouldn't be a trivial thing, and their tech shouldn't be arbitrarily neutered. I want playing Clans to be a challenge, and I want it to FEEL different than playing as IS. Also, I'd like to be able to jump back and forth. Some days I feel like slumming it up with the rest of the dirty spheroids, some days I feel like being an elite Clan warrior with a lot at stake.

Would it be cheaper to code amazing AI or hire people to play the game as clanners for like 12 hours out of the day and pay them minimum wage?

I think in the long run the coding would be cheaper then paying people.
