Arena's are a healthy way to encourage other types of players to the game that prefer small group engagements or just to show off there ability. however the only way to make arena's work in a game properly is to have a very very large player base. if your player base is to small there will be longer wait times for both the original idea of the game which is 12 v12 and arena wait times. keep it simple like the devs are planning on. wait 6mths a year what ever to see the size of the player base then work on expansions. i for one would use arena only very rarely. 1v1 2v2 is not how the BT/MW universe works except on solaris 7. the other thousands of worlds dont do this. they use large scale warfare to determine the outcome.

however,

i voted no on this. a few years ago when i played the biggest mmo (you know which one im refering to) i concentrated most of my time with pvp especially arena. even though it had and has the largest player base i still had to wait occasionally in a long que. this is the reason im very happy that the devs are waiting on this. if its going to happen it needs to be done right and not take away from the original game.

Not only should there be Solaris VII maps and tournaments, there should also be a myriad of game types for duels, free-for-alls, single lance games, and two lance games in addition to the standard three lance games.

This will allow players to compete on any level, from just representing a single character, a small lance or two with some close friends, and the standard game-type players can take their commands into battle and try their luck.

And don't even get me started on the roleplaying opportunities this would represent, both in the game itself AND at tournaments. For any of you wrestling fans out there, you know what kind I'm talking about. Over-the-top shenanigans between the top players, flinging insults and weapons fire at each other from their tournament-grade simulation pods.

Hell, even imagine a Solaris VII television (or internet) channel that used the game as it's medium, just like WWE and other wrestling groups have their rings/stages.

I need to stop thinking about this or I'm going to have a nerdgasm pretty soon.
