Why does everyone use Crysis 2 as a standard for computing power?

it's done on these boards because MWO uses the same graphics engine as Crysis2

I haven't heard people talking about how awesome their machine is in reference to Crysis 2, I normally hear people refer to Battlefield: 3 when talking about their computer system.

For the same reason people make useless post thread titles. ie, Nobody is really sure why.

It's not just here, but on every gaming forum. Seriously, everybody uses it as a pseudo standard for measurement. Why not a different game? Why not Skyrim? ME3? The Witcher/Witcher 2?

Don't know, I don't use Crysis2 as a gauge of a computers performance. I don't own Crysis2 and havent played the demo. Heard enough from reveiws of the game to stay away

Because people think that a poorly ported game is the best graphics we can do because of the name of the franchise. Problem is, the engine is just an optimized (read downgraded) Cry Engine 2. At least that's the case in Crysis 2. :(

because crysis at max settings can still cause some modern good computers to choke and run out of "oompf"

crysis 2 has even more capability to cause computers to "choke"

Attacking poor usability which results in tons of wasted effort by those attempting to find the topic of the thread and for those who perform a search and wonder what the heck the thread is about due to an exceptionally poor title.

So, based on a downgraded engine and a game's notoriety for choking out systems(possibly due to poor optimization), that's the reason? I always thought I gave people too much credit. :D

Since I can't edit my title, unlike other forums I browse, I will be certain to keep that in mind and make better thread titles. Sound good?

Sounds perfect. I'm sure the forums collectively thank you for helping them out.

What is funny is that Crysis 1 is capable of better graphics than Crysis 2 is... ;)

Crysis 2 is used as a medium for computer performance on this forum primarily due to the fact that it's game engine, CryENGINE 3, is the same game engine which powers mechwarrior online

Also, in DX 11 with high resolution textures enabled, Crysis 2 actually has a higher level of graphics rendering, especially with tessellation. The main reason people think the original Crysis looks better to many people is largely psychological- you see a city landscape every day as opposed to a jungle environment.

The engine that mwo uses is the same engine that crysis 2 uses which is cryengine3 which is why we use it as a standard of computing power because that engine is what mwo is going to use the same engine as crysis 2, the cryengine 3. 2. mwo. ponies. urbanmechs. clans.
