Heavily wooded alpine or taiga. So long as there's conifers'a'plenty.

I want to be able to dodge between trees and actually use them as cover. Mechwarrior 4 came close to trying this, but when entire copses of trees suddenly burst into toothpicks at the slightest touch, and trees rarely show up with more than 10 at a time, it never really made for decent cover.

Space. Something in zero-g, like on the outer hull of a jumpship. Like that mission from the end of Ghost Bear's Legacy, where you had to jump jet up into the hold of a station or something.

It would be a real test of piloting skills because recoil based weapons could throw your mech (or their mech) spinning and you could use that to your advantage with practice.

It would probably be headache inducing most of the time, but maybe one map would be a really neat break from ground combat.

I would also like to see frozen wastes where heat sinks operate at 200% and flat, windy deserts where your heat sinks barely function at all and you cannot see more than a few meters in front of you.

Oh and LOTS of urban battles, please.

Low-end urban environments. That is, something similar to the right side of this picture:
Posted Image

Low-laying buildings no more than 3 stories tall, with parks and wide streets here and there. Preferably on the outskirts of the a town/city, so you might have some larger open terrain on one side of the map, such as a desert or plains, or even have a forested terrain. Essentially a mish-mash of two different terrain types.

As nice as it would be to have settings like Hawkeye 72 posted in post number 8... I would like to do battle in a masive electrical storm...strait Highlander style with bolts of lightning arching across the sky and terrestrial strikes all over the place.

Perhaps some mega-city maps with biuldings so tall that they dwarf your mech completetly. Or a multi-story cities where there are multiple levels for lighter jump-equipped 'mechs to hop up onto biuldings and flank larger less mobile machines. There could be narrow alleys where larger where wider machines (such as a quad mech) would not be able to fit.
A huge variable terrain area might be even more interesting switching from rolling hills and forested valleys to flat plains and farmlands dotted with small towns. So long as the scale of the battle-zone reflects the scale of the weapons and machines used. Huge open distances so that faster machines can have an advantage in open areas, and that Arrow IV missles can be used to their greatest effect. Sensor range should be an important factor as well as scouting for the enemy. There should be sudden weather changes.
A huge factory map would be neat. Moons/airless planets with little craters to dive in and out of (or in my case tumble into accidentally). Snowy mountains with blizzards, sandy deserts with sandstorms, mesa-lands with huge cliffs for me to fall off of (likely on the first three steps I take). Even a ball of ice where the gravity is so low that my centurion suddenly accelerates to 350kph and tumbles off the edge into space. Oh look at all the SPAAAAAAACCCCCCCCCCEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!

I want a city map in which each building or structure is for the most part, unique. Of course I expect copies of some types of parent objects: stop lights, street lights, redundant oversaturated advertizing. But I'm dead sick and tired of the same buildings copied and pasted all over the place, especially when there is NO architechtural schema at all. Of course, a place like the French Quarter in Nola, you could get away with some cut n paste building facades, but the other sides of the buildings, no. I want a city map that I could tell myself "Man, this is a great place, gonna write down that realtor's number from that billboard before I crush this neighborhood like paper mache!"

I like the city environment as well. Large manufacturing areas, etc., with things that are dangerous to both defenders and attackers, like electrical grids, chemical storage, and other similar items. Areas being attacked/defended need to have strategic importance however, which may place operational constraints on the players. Or... we can just level the terrain as we see fit. :-)

I would love to see many enviroments and weather conditions...most of the contested worlds that are inhabited will be earthlike, but I would love to see some crazy moons around them.

Either way, weather adds realism, so all of the above.

I posted a thread before about a rolling-hills type of map with lots of cover and hiding places. I think a simple map with a "foothills" layout could be interesting, but maybe too memory-intensive?

I just had a thought though while reading through a Kuritan 'mechs thread. When fighting deep in Kuritan territory urban maps should have a Japanese feel, with pagoda-style roofs, rice-paper walls, and lots of neon signs.

Other houses could have similar customization, such as sparing eastern bloc style for Liao, neo-classical for Steiner, etc. This could add a really awesome level of immersion to urban maps.

While I agree with the general 'make it diverse' attitude, this thread makes me wonder how CE3 would cope with tunnels.

"Bring me everyone."
"What do you mean, everyone?"
"EEEEEVERYONE!"

So yes. Everyone. Lava, hailstorm, rain, fog, jungle, urban, snow, craters, the whole shebang, in every combination we can muster.
