Long time mead drinker, occasional mead maker. Got lazy making it when I found easy access to purchasable mead, should really start again. (That reminds me, I think I still have a couple old (5+ years) bottles of homemade stashed somewhere.
*wanders off to start searching*

BTW, if you like mead and you like cider (and do home brewing), you should really try making a cyser (mead made with apples), very good if done right!

You should be able to get mead in Calgary. The liqour store in ?Pacific Place? mall (In the northeast, near Marlbrough mall on 36th street) used to carry Maxwell's mead last time I went there (a couple years ago). Highlander Wine and Spirits on 16th Ave NW either had it in stock or was able to get it (can't remember exactly, but I ordered a case of it a few years back). I'll check with some friends I have in the area see if I can find more recent information...but if it's easily available in Brooks and Medicine Hat, surely there should be some in Calgary.
*edit* almost forgot, there's also Chinook Arch Meadery in Okotoks (and I found their website for ya too http://www.chinookho...h%20Meadery.htm) enjoy!

I had it a couple of times at renn faires, was pretty good. Then I saw a Amon Amarth video on how to make mead, not sure if i'm making it right (i'm trying to be as old school about it as possible) but its fun to do, even got my wife into making it with me. The first batch tastes ok, but its better when I've been drinking other things first, The 2nd batch we just bottled tastes like jet fuel

I once tried to brew my own mead, and that...did not end well. I am convinced that there was some sort of contamination because the end result looked, smelled, and tasted a little like urine. It was a real shame, and I haven't had a chance to try it again.

Tasted? I am not sure I would have had that base of compairison.

I used to drink it, when i could get it from a friend who home-brewed.

Can't compare to craft-brewed stuff, but this is what I can get around here:

EXTREMELY tasty on a foggy night. Can anyone recommend some different styles / better mead to be found on the West Coast of the US?
Also: Get a bottle of Aquavit. Get your friends together. Snaps. Fight.

Wow I'm impressed to see so many other Mead lovers around, most the people around where I live look at me funny when I tell them that I only (apart from the now and then beer) drink Mead and Port and ask me what that is.

Note to myself, "good diplomatic relations between the FRR and the Capellan Confederacy are a must to ensure a steady supply of Mead to our troops."

I'm in the SCA, the Brewer's guld makes quite a few vintage meads that are excellent!

I made it a couple of times...first one went fantastic. I used wine yeast and a longer fermentation which gave it about 16% and quite the punch. Second batch friggin roomates cats kept knocking off the bung and I didn't notice. Also temperature issues caused fermentation issues so I decided to distill the weak nasty stuff I had...BIG mistake. Do NOT distill mead without the aid of a charcoal filter and several pass throughs. It was fun at parties for a while, lighting it on fire...making people drink that crap. Then I put the last bottle in a firepit with a firework in the mouth, lit and ran. You can figure out how that went.

edit: btw, love mead and intend to make a whole lot more some day.

mead is yummy. i do wonder about everyone drinking it outta glass bottles from a distillery. It just tastes better when you know its been buried in the earth in a clay jug for a year or so.

I Live a little west of Denver Colorado. Luckly, There are a number of Colorado based mead producers.

Me and my buddy Max drink mead at every bbq, party, or dinner that we have.

I've thought about brewing my own.. It's probably one of those things i'll try in like five or six years.

Thank the Gods for mead!
