Currently installing the game and reminiscing about some of the awesome moments that (slight exaggeration) defined my childhood.

I wish I hadn't played 31st Century Combat first because it spoiled the mystery of the Clans for me, but I still remember the foreboding in the contracts as the Clans began their invasion. I remember the first time having a contact on the radar just on the edge of my range as a mission came to a close--If I remember correctly, a Vulture up on what (I think) was called "Devil's Rock" (or something) ominously watching over me before turning and running out of range.

I remember a Clan Wolf dropship flying in during a mission and I remember trying to fight my way out as several Clan 'mechs cornered me, and the horribly stressful breakout in a stolen hovercraft with nothing but an srm launcher and a bunch of Clanners chasing me down!

What were your favourite moments?! Share!!

PS, everyone check this out :) http://mwomercs.com/...ergeant-unther/

Ahhhhh, I still have a really old Gateway computer just for old games that are hard to get working on newer computers (Really old = Pentium 2 Celeron processor, ~256 Mb RAM, 3 Gb HD. Probably older than me.)

Mercs is one of my favorite games of all time, I'm not sure if I could pick a favorite part.

I did really enjoy destroying stuff with the MLAS/MGUN/INFSSRM Catapult I built. Sooo easy to make an OP 'mech in that game :D

One of the more memorable missions for me was the one where you're working for the DCMS, and you have to run through an ice pillar 'forest' and destroy an airbase. Died way too many times on that...

This is where I found out. Takes a bit of trying though. I got mine to work through DosBox.

I loved reading the Mercenary's Diary in between missions, it sure added a lot of color to the universe. Things like, "Now I know why a lot of mercs don't like working for the Combine; their battle plans are smart, but far too reckless even for a merc." Or, "I have severe reservations about attacking the Federated Commonwealth, they're pretty much the best thing going for the Inner Sphere right now. But the money's good." And then--Solaris VII! Not to mention the Clan invasion... Wings: Do you know which contract it is that ends with the Vulture on top of Devil's Rock? I never noticed it before. For me, first contact came with the Clan Wolf attack on the Oberon Confederation, on a world your mercs just beat the hell out of, and the radio transmission, "Inner Sphere barbarians; which of you has the courage to face the warriors of Clan Wolf?" Or something to that effect.

MW2 Mercenaries will always be my favorite of the series, even if I am a Clansmen first and foremost. For its time and era, it really felt like I was living the Inner Sphere over some of its most tumultuous times. From training to your first drop on Prospernia to Wolcott to Luthien. It was awesome. I would list my favorite memory, but that would encompass the entire game. Therefore my favorite memory is the first time I saw the game

Same here. I can't remember how many times i replayed the game over and over again. And as someone else said already, the merc diaries were really great in filling out the whole game.

But yes, the first time after I finished watching the intro was really the most memorable part.

I mostly remember the diary as well. In particular the mission with the pilot complaining about bugs in the cockpit and wondering about mechs being airtight. I also remember the first time you run into Elementals and being annoyed that I couldn't step on them with my Stalker. As far as missions go, it's been far too long but the early morning raid on I think the Draconis Combine's camps to hunt down the commander always stuck out to me.

Anyone else start with this game and have a hard time thinking of Clan mechs by anything but IS designations?

I don't remember. There is a mission where the briefing mentions the rock formation... I think there is a pirate forward base or airport on the other side of it (but I could be mixing two different things now). When you first see the rock, it's in the mission prior to when it's mentioned, and that is when I think you see the Vulture running away. It's powered down the entire time and when you get close enough it powers up right at your max range and then just runs away.

OMG the training was FANTASTIC. That was so well done. That guy was hilarious too--SOMEONE GET HIM BACK FOR SOME VOICE ACTING!!! Could you imagine if there was a brief training in MWO... the screen fades from black and you see a catapult, suddenly this guy chimes in on your radio--MAKE IT HAPPEN PGI!

It was blasphemy in my eyes, I played MW2 31st before Mercs. Generally I just renamed my Clan mechs to their proper names.

My favorite? That game was too amazing to just have one. The "meta-game" was perfectly executed, being able to go over InnerSphere news, the 'mechlab, see your finances / hire mercs... etc.

For gameplay? Probably the mission (I forget which one) where the Clanners arrive during the Invasion completely unexpected and the mission directly after where you need to escape in a hovercraft. Good times...

MW2 Mercs was fantastic. Some of my favorite moments was holding the line against the clans on a hill as friendlies were retreating. Stealing the Kodiak was really cool.

There was one time in the solaris matches where I salvaged a Zues. I thought that was awesome and used it in my next match. I dropped in and dropped on my face. It had no leg, I didn't even think to check for damage on it before I launched.

Loved that mission, It was pretty cool to directly engage Clan Ghost Bear in their own territory.

I love the entire MW2 series, my absolute favorite missions are the following:

MW2
- Training missions (hilarious dialogue from trainer)
- Destroy the terraformer
- Jade Falcon attack on Morges (pre-final mission)
- Any fights in domed cities
- Trials of position

MW2: GBL
- Wolcott
- Trial of Grievance
- Bloodname trials (you need to unlock these)

MW2: Mercs
- Steal the Kodiak
- Clan Wolf invasion missions (attack + escape from prison camp)
- Missions against the Dread Legion
- Battle of Luthien
- The ice ship missions
