It should work just like a regular picture does: Paste the link in the text box then add the [img ] www.whatever.com [/ img] tags without the spaces of course.

Seems to be working fine for me. You're not using the little "Image" button near the top of the reply box are you? Just insert the [IMG ] [/IMG ] tags manually.
