So in anticipation of the release of the game I've thought about picking up some of the books. I bought and read many of the books that were put out in the 90s. I've played just about every computer mechwarrior game I could get my hands on. The whole Battletech/mechwarrior universe is a little fuzy and I'm remembering pieces here and there. If I was to get back into reading which books or series of books should I start with?

I always reccomend "Decision at Thunder Rift" as a first read.

It was one of the first Battletech novels, and even if you don't read the
rest of the Gray Death Legion Saga...it's very worth it.

Even read on the author's website once that he is still suprized how many people
consider it one of his best works.

you can always start with this:
"For those that want copies of the Battletech novels and cartoons, here is the information for an account on a free storage site. Only one person at a time can log in and download so it's first come first serve, but the files will stay there after your download finishes. I must ask that no one delete any files from the acct, but if the novel list is missing any, or anyone knows where to find the elusive last episode of the battletech cartoons, feel free to upload Battletech stuff. Just post in here what got put up so it can be shared with all. I may be uploading some pics over time, they really take forever, but I have been saving mech pics from the internet for years, so I have a boatload of art from various sources.

The books and cartoons are there. I didn't put the RPG guidebooks on their because there are just so many. The small amount of data that's there took almost 2 hours to upload. The email that is the username is not used or even monitored. I created it solely for this purpose."

and besides the cartoon and novels it has an extensive gallery of Battlemech images and Battle Armours.

I do not know much about the Inner Sphere, outside of a few later-year books and Sarna. But for the Clans, I would recommend you read the Legend Of The Jade Phoenix trilogy. It does a great job of presenting the various aspects of Clan society and culture (at least Jade Falcon, that is) to a new reader. You might find yourself confused in some places, but it is a far better place to start than other books, in my opinion, AND it is an excellent story that is moving, regardless of your interest in sci-fi, BattleTech, or the Clans.
