I see what you guys did there....Corean? Destruction of Gauss Rifle? is this in anyway similar to the failed missle test by the North Koreans?

The ISF is probably investigating how this was leaked to the news media.

Its the Dracs own fault. They shouldn't have tried to use Katanas as ammonition.

Actually, it seems Randall was drinking either too much or too little coffee while writing that. The AS7-K equipped with the new Dragon's Fire gauss rifle is product of two DC arms manufacturers, Yori 'Mech Works and Independence Weaponry.

Corean Enterprises, in turn, is FedSun based company that was behind the CN9-D Centurion that was also featured in IS news flash a while back.

Corean unveils the new Centurion: http://mwomercs.com/...isn-news-flash/

DC arms manufacturers try to outdo the FedSun one by doing television broadcast of the new Atlas. Corean is not amused by the publicity stunt: http://mwomercs.com/...isn-news-flash/

So Corean has nothing to do with this event or AS7-K Atlas. Well, besides the fact that they are obviously the ones behind this industrial sabotage. ISF will soon find out about this and we'll send DCMS to level New Avalon, where the Corean Enterprises hold their shop.

(Edit) Oh lord, the ComStar has edited the OP. ;)

So Gauss rifle explosions are in. Good to know that they can destroy an Atlas, i'll know where to aim =)

Katanas with capital K? Mechs as Gauss ammunition?

Several planets with factories changed hands during the 4th Succession War and the War of 39. I don't have my books at hand, but maybe one the Corean factories was on one of those planets. I'll check once I'm at home.

He's at work right now with a pretty major project but even when he gets some time about all he will be able to post is about the ISF and the Gauss Rifle but not the specific incident itself. I've been looking on the internet for info on this; nothing. The House Kurita book doesn't cover this portion of the time line either I don't think.

A good example of how rich & convoluted our canon is. Even some of the fellas running the show get their sourcebooks crossed with their TROs sometimes....

Still, it is simpler to understand than the US taxcode....

Okay, what disturbs me is that, when a Gauss rifle explodes -yes, it's the rifle, not the ammunition for this one- it is treated as a 20-point ammo explosion. That is not nearly enough to destroy an Atlas, not even really enough to be a hardcore dent in it. I'm crying foul... this was sabotage... I'm glad the Dracs got one of theirs knocked off, hehe.

Stupid Drac's, won't mess with the *smack* Oww what the hell was that for.
You are not supposed to talk about them in front of strangers.
Oohh, right, yeah, well they won't mess with the Dragoons then.

Guess that's what happens when you try and be a show-off...

Feds did it right with the Centurion. Although that XL leaves something to be desired.

The AS7-K's Gauss is located in the Right Torso. The torso has 21 points of internal Structure and is protected by a CASE. If the weapon is hit it only does 20 points internal. If there less that 20 points iun that torso the CASE redirects the blast away from the Mech. This explosion also has the posiblity of generating possible Crits. Per TT rules the max allowed from a single Die roll is 3. The problem is that the Mech has an XL Engine. This means that the engine takes up 3 three crit slots in each of its 3 torso. According to the TT rules every time a Mech loses 3 engine Crit Slot the engine has a chance that it may explode.

Also, losing 3 Crit Slots means the Mech will shut down.

I do not have a Rule Book in front of me. Can anyone varify this.

Maybe that particular Gauss Rifle suffered from capacitor plague?

As for destroying the 'Mech...

The AS7-K uses an XL engine, so the destruction of the side torso where the Gauss Rifle is stored could destroy the engine.

From Total Warfare, pg. 123:

Quote

Every time the internal structure of a ’Mech, ProtoMech, vehicle or aerospace unit takes damage (from a weapon attack, physical attack, falling, ammo explosion and so on), an internal component may take critical damage.

So, what Skylarr said (and ninja'd me while I was typing... ;))
