Does anyone have any ideas on how much the variants might cost? I mean if they standardized prices so that a mechs prices is, more or less, a sum of it's parts, maybe we can get a ball park estimate?

Most (all?) Cataphracts mount an XL engine. Going by the cost of the other variants with XLs as standard, I expect around 9 - 10 million CB. Upper 8 if we're really lucky.

The 1x, 2x, and 4x all come with standard engines. Only the 3d (and the 3L, when that's added) has an XL in the stock configuration.

It's only a 70 ton mech (heavier than the Cat by 5on). As long as there's no XL engine it should be in the 5-6mil range... maybe low 7mil. It shouldn't cost more than an Assault.

The Right Arm of the CTF-3D and both of the CTF-4X's arms have Lower Arm Actuators (in addition to the Shoulder Actuators and Upper Arm Actuators), leaving only nine (9) open criticals in each arm.
The AC/20 requires 10 critical spaces.

Unless the BT rules for splitting weapons across locations (applicable to only AC/20, LB 20-X, UAC/20, and the Heavy Gauss Rifle) are implemented by the Devs (e.g. 8 criticals in the RA, 2 criticals in the RT), none of the Cataphract variants would be able to support dual AC/20s.

As I strongly fear. Oh well.

So they do. I stand corrected. 9-10 million for the 3D, then. Others probably around 5-6 million.

I caught this quote from Paul today

The dual AC/20 Cataphract will #$@& you in the $#@

I strongly suspect its the 4X chassis that can carry dual AC/20s.

First... actual link to the quote?

Secondly...
As previously noted, a CTF-4X (record sheet viewable here) would not be able to carry dual AC/20s unless 1.) the MechLab will allow AC/20s to be split across locations, 2.) the Lower Arm Actuators in both arms are removed so that the ACs will fit in the arms alone, and/or 3.) additional Ballistics hardpoints are added to both the LT and the RT locations.

The other Cataphract variants are also subject to (1) and (3), while (2) might only need to be applied to the RA location.

On the other hand (and not yet having seen the statement in its original context), perhaps it was a typo (where it was supposed to be "dual AC/10s")? Or Paul was just being facetious...? :D

First one I'll buy is the 3D variant for the Jump Jets. It might be the only variant I keep.

call me crazy but I wouldn't buy one till I get to drive a trail mech version. Handling is a HUGE part of mech choice and I have to test drive anything before i buy it :3

It is a little sad...
The Cataphract-4X, a dedicated ballistic weapon platform, can't mount AC20s... unlike the Cat-K2.
Well... I have to stick to the K2 then. And don't blame me for not trying.

It's only pretend money, so why am I reluctant to spend it on a 'phract?
Force of habit I guess.

The 4x looks really good for the money. I love those ballistic hard points.

There's gonna be a ****-ton of 4Xs with dual gauss on the 20th.

Dual gauss is too fragile for the amount of weight it takes.

Cataphract is all about the ac's.
