There has recently been a post asking how much people will spend on MWO, I'm wondering what they will spend on. Discuss.

Why isn't there an option for "variants that can't be bought with C-Bills"?

A new mech or varient might be worth shelling out cash for, especially if its a good earner of xp and credits.

A bit like the KV-5 or Lowe tanks in World of Tanks.

2 days ago I was able to grind over 1 mil in credits to buy the next tank I unlocked in about 4 hours of running in the KV-5. Even battles I lose make me 25-35k, wins average 40k and up, and I had 2 battles where I broke the 100k credits in a single match.

Contrast that with the ISU-152 which often loses money on a loss and a win where I don't get a lot of shots I'm lucky to break even.
Thats not to say I don't love the ISU-152, I do, but a great earner its not.

a mech or varient is a good one if it gives u more creds and or exp but not if it give you an advantage over others that dont want to spend the cash. i liked to keep i it based on skill if u please:)

I'll leave balancing issues up to the developers. If there's a mech I want, I'll be ESPECIALLY likely to buy it if I think it will give me an advantage. They've pretty much already said that you won't be able to buy your way to victory, so just buy whatever suits you.

I would expect the only thing you can do with real money is convert to C-Bills, buy custom paint/decals/trinkets etc, or increase premium/C-bill gains.

I hope that doesn't happen, things as important as variants should be earnable by playing as well as paying. Things like special paint schemes or logos I think are ok if some are payable only and not earnable.

I choose other.

I would pay for:
  • 'Mech Chassis
  • Skins
  • Insignias
  • Maybe weapons
And that's about it. I feel like modules and so on will be earned through play but if I don't want to save up my C-Bills to buy a chassis I really want I can pay IRL money for it and get it fast (same with weapons) and get some hopefully awesome skins for like 2 bucks!

Yeah, I think the devs already mentioned that you'd be able to unlock anything that you could purchase given that you put enough time into the game.

I definately think mech variants that are not purchasable with cbills will be on the list.

The other thing I sort of don't see on the list is premium service. The option for "Extra experience for an hour, I'm busy and I want to make the most of my time." comes close, but that doesn't feel very ongoing. Also not as profitable for PGI as a subscription service. So add to this list...

Subscription fee to have enhanced exp and cbill generation while subscription is active.

i play wot too and i know what youre saying. i wouldnt have a problem buying a farm mech.. but with the way wot is setup, you really can buy your way to the top, that i dont like. yea, ive invested some loot in the game, but.. the problem there is youre constantly relying on your farmer just to advance. i hate having to play 5 - 10 games in lower tiers just to play a couple of games in my tier 10. there are so many ways of handling this, i just hope mwo doesnt take that approach.

I thought most of this has been discussed. It isn't pay to win, every mech/module/weapon is purchased with c-bills, there is no tier or mech leveling so you don't have to go through half a dozen scouts to get into medium/heavy or assault mechs. You are given enough cash at the start, or are just given the option to pick whatever mech you want from the start so it's not like you are going to have to farm to get to an Atlas or Awesome. The only things they've said for certain would cost money is maybe some skins/appearance type items NOT equipment or performance enhancing items.

Speculation can be fun, but most of this has been covered.

I really really hope that we don't have to pay for 'mech bays' Dumbest idea ever. It isn't enough that we pay for the mech, we have to pay for the right to store things we've paid for.

You wouldn't need to buy new mech bays all the time...
Paying for mech bays may not be quite what your thinking. Buying mech bays would be the ability to store more mechs than normal. You could start with a half dozen empty mech bays. Then you get your first mech. If you sell that mech you keep the bay and put a different mech in its place. It just means you are limited to piloting up to 6 mechs at any given time. Buying more mech bays would just give you the ability to store more mechs at once.

A few people are asking about an option to buy mech variants that can't be bought with c-bills. I for one hope that doesn't happen. Once there are things as important as a whole variant that can ONLY be bought with real money, it's going to feel like people can just buy their victory, and I will stop playing pretty quickly.
