Dear 2.0 DHS, you have been wonderful for game balance.

You have made AC20s scary again.

You have made it so medium and large lasers aren't always replaced by small lasers.

You have made it so I can run canon weapon configs with much more success.

You still haven't done anything good for trial mechs (other than the CDA) though...

I still think that the heat system needs a drastic overhaul (lower cap, higher dissipation), but I think it's also clear that 2.0 DHS, even if given to us in a limited fashion, have not come even close to breaking the game.

They might still nerf it to 1.4 though so I wouldn't stare at them for too long. :P

For lights and mediums they work as they were orignally intended. For assaults they only save weight and allow a better engine.

do all engine mounted DHS work at 2.0? including those that can be added to engines ratings 275+?

No, just the ones that are normally internal to the engine.

I would like to see the disipation on the externally mounted ones increased to 0.2 heat/sec and the cap increase lowered to 1.0 -- the same as SHS.

Yeah. I think the main take-away from this mistake is that Jenners are receiving the full benefit of DHS, and aren't the unstoppable powerhouses that people thought would be created by 2.0 DHS.

Right.....so where is the math that proves this?

Last night I built and played almost exclusively with a Dragon wilth Double Heat-sinks.

With 2 Large Lasers (1,64*2=3,28 Heat/second) and 14 DHS.

There are 3 possibilities here.

All DHS work at 1,4 (14DHS=1.96)
Engine works at 2,0 and the other 4 at 1,4 (10 engine DHS + 4DHS=2.56)
They all work at 2,0 (14DHS=2.8)

On the snow levels this runs heat-neutral with a good margin and even on Caustic I hardly need to pay any attention on my heat. A test I just did told me that on my 14th shot I will overheat on Caustic.

That is 196 heat in 59,5 seconds. If all DHS wold work at 1,4 they would only dissipate 116,6 heat in that time. I doubt that my Max heat is 80. And that does not even concider enviromental modifiers.

If someone could please tell me how to calculate max heat and the enviromental modifiers for Caustic I could run the numbers backwards and see which of the 3 options above are correct.

EDIT: Did some further tests on River City that does not have any heat modifiers.

Still with 2 Large Lasers generating 7 heat each in a 1 sec beam with cooldown of 3,25 seconds.
With coolrun so +7,5% heat dissipation
With heat containment so +10% max heat

Start Heat: 0%
First shot: 21%
Cooldown to: 4%
Second shot: 24%
Cooldown to: 6%

Calculating the heat generated with one shot (14 heat-heat dissipated in 1 sec) = 21% for all 3 options and calculating the max heat possible. Comparing this to the heat dissipated (3,25 seconds * heat dissipation per second) = 17% and multiplying this number with 100 to get max heat. The numbers here that end up the closest will tell us which scenario is the correct one.

In short:
All DHS work at 1,4 (14DHS=1.96) = 56,6 vs 40,3
Engine works at 2,0 and the other 4 at 1,4 (10 engine DHS + 4DHS=2.56) = 53,6 vs 52,6
They all work at 2,0 (14DHS=2.8) = 52,3 vs 57,5

We can see that scenario 2 is the most accurate one and with the errors included in the models due to heat % being shown in only whole numbers I'd say that this is the true way DHS works.
